Jack Macrae is unlikely to play until Round 14 at the earliest after St Kilda confirmed the extent of his internal injury sustained in Sunday’s loss to West Coast.
St Kilda listed Macrae as 2-3 weeks, with the Saints having the Round 13 bye. The Saints injury update said: “Euro-Yroke will be without Jack Macrae this week, after scans confirmed a punctured lung for the midfielder.
“Macrae played out Sunday’s game before examinations after the game indicated further assessment was required, seeing Macrae head to hospital post-match. The 30-year-old ball magnet landed back in Melbourne today after further consultations with specialists in Perth, and will now spend some additional time in hospital as he continues to recover.”
St Kilda EGM of Football David Misson said: “We’ll monitor Jack over the next few days, however at this stage it’s unlikely he’ll play before our bye in Round 13.”
Richmond have revealed Jayden Short will miss a further 1-2 weeks with a calf injury. Tigers High Performance Manager Ben Serpell said: “Unfortunately, in the last couple of weeks, that knee soreness has tracked to the back of his leg, and he has sustained a small soleus strain in his calf.
“We will manage that over the next couple of weeks, and just like we do with any of our other players, we will take a precautionary approach with it and give him a bit of time. He will miss the next one to two (weeks), so we can make sure that he is right to go when he is available.”
GWS have confirmed Finn Callaghan will miss 4-6 weeks with his shoulder dislocation.
The Giants said in their update: “Callaghan injured his right shoulder in a marking contest on the three-quarter time siren and after strapping his shoulder returned to the field for most of the fourth quarter. The 22-year-old won’t require surgery and will be targeting a return in round 14.”
GWS listed Josh Kelly (hip) as 1-2 weeks, Brent Daniels (abdominal) as 3-4 weeks and Stephen Coniglio (glute) as 4 weeks.
Carlton have revealed Tom De Koning (throat) will face a test this week to prove his fitness for their game against GWS.
The Blues confirmed he was in “full training” and wrote: “Will aim to complete training this week to be available for selection.”
Melbourne are optimistic Xavier Lindsay will be fine to play this week despite a heavy hit against Brisbane. Demons AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said: “Xavier had that hit late in the fourth quarter. He just came off as he had a little bit of trouble with his speech and swallowing.
“He was seen at the hospital in Brisbane and stayed overnight and was cleared from scans there. Once he returned to Melbourne we sought further specialist opinion that has cleared him of any further damage. He’s obviously still recovering and he’ll look to integrate into training this week and we expect that he’ll be available this weekend.”
Geelong have listed Tom Stewart as “available” along with ruckman Rhys Stanley and Mitch Knevitt. Patrick Dangerfield will miss 1-2 weeks due to a “low-grade hamstring strain”.
Port Adelaide have confirmed Jason Horne-Francis will be sidelined for 4 weeks, due to a hamstring strain sustained against Geelong.
The Power listed as Horne-Francis as 4 weeks, and said: “Horne-Francis and Lachie Jones will both miss this weekend’s Walyalup clash with injury.
“Both players pulled up sore during the first half of Saturday’s game at Adelaide Oval, with scans on Sunday confirming hamstring strains. Horne-Francis is expected to return soon after the bye, while Jones could be sidelined for up to eight weeks.”
Collingwood’s Dan Houston is no certainty to play this round due to a corked calf. The Pies update said: “Houston sustained a calf cork in the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Adelaide. He has been limited in his training this week and will be assessed later in the week.”
Fremantle could welcome back ruckman Sean Darcy from a knee injury, which will impact Luke Jackson’s role.
Freo high performance manager Phil Merriman said: “He’s (Darcy) good. He progressed well through the gears last week and the plan is to see him main train on Wednesday. If he gets through that, he’ll be available for selection.”
