Tuesday’s injury reports are starting to trickle out with key updates across the board to help guide your Round 8 trade targets and trade-outs.
Carlton has confirmed Jack Silvagni will miss a few games with a broken hand. The Blues injury update said: “Experienced a broken hand in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over Geelong.
“He has undergone surgery this afternoon, with his availability for Round 9 to be determined next week.” He’s listed as an availability for Rounds 9-10.
Sydney revealed Ben Paton has sustained a calf strain but his timeline remains to be confirmed. The Swans injury update said: “Ben suffered a calf strain against the Gold Coast and was subbed out at half time. Scans late this afternoon will determine a timeline and the best course of action. TBC.”
The Swans also provided an update on Callum Mills who was listed as 1-2 weeks last round, but hasn’t progressed. The update: “Callum is still rehabilitating from his plantar fascia tear.
“He did not complete all the training required last week for him to be available for selection. He will aim to complete team training this week. Week to week upon re-assessment.”
Sydney also revealed a minor calf strain for Sam Wicks. The update said: “Sam pulled up tight from our main training session last week and scans confirmed a minor calf strain. Test.”
Port rookie Tom Cochrane will be out for an extended period due to a foot injury. The Power said in an update: “Cochrane underwent surgery on Tuesday after further scans last week detected stress fractures in his navicular.”
Luke Jackson is facing a test to prove his fitness to return from a hamstring injury, which might impact Oscar McDonald’s role or selection. Freo High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said: “All signs are looking good.
“He’s completed training and we just need to make sure he pulls up well tomorrow — then he’ll be on the plane.”
Nathan O’Driscoll is moving closer to an AFL return, with Freo hopeful he’ll be back in the next fortnight. Merriman said: “Driz is out there running around and hitting some good high-speed efforts now. He’s likely about two weeks away, then we should see him back in action.”
Tim Kelly has been declared available to return for West Coast, which will impact Brady Hough’s role and their midfield options like Tom Gross and Clay Hall. Eagles High Performance Manager Mat Inness said: “He is back to full training this week and will be available for selection this weekend.”
GWS didn’t list Lachie Ash in their injury update, despite speculation. Instead, the Club confirmed Brent Daniels “continues to be managed for his unique abdominal injury” and Stephen Coniglio (glute) will be a test again this week.
Essendon have listed Jye Caldwell as 1 week, having “progressed back into full training after an early season hamstring strain and is eyeing off a return to play in next week’s clash with Sydney”. Darcy Parish is also close to returning to play in the coming weeks, listed as 2-3 weeks.
Adam Treloar is closing in on a return from injury for the Western Bulldogs, likely via the VFL. Dogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said: “In some great news, Adam has built some great continuity in his training across the last few months after suffering an injury-interrupted preparation to the season.
“For the last three weeks, he has trained fully and completed sessions that replicate match demands. He is chomping at the bit to pull the jumper on again, so if he gets through training like we expect, he will return to availability.”
St Kilda have declared Mattaes Phillipou “will put his hand up to play his first game of footy this year, pending a fitness test during tomorrow’s main training session”, although that’s likely in the VFL.
Brisbane’s Keidean Coleman was confirmed available for selection after Tuesday’s training session, with the defender likely to play VFL.
