Brisbane Lions vs Collingwood
Callum Ah Chee was subbed out with a knee injury. Pies captain Darcy Moore was subbed out after copping a knee to the head, causing bleeding.
North Melbourne vs Carlton
Zac Fisher was subbed out with a hamstring injury, while Carlton lost Jacob Weitering to a right knee knock late on.
On Fisher, North coach Alastair Clarkson said: “We’ll have to get that assessed and see how it goes for him.”
West Coast vs Essendon
The Dons lost ruckman Sam Draper to an Achilles injury in the last quarter and Xavier Duursma stumbled off in pain with a knee to the ribs, where he was taken to hospital as a precaution.
On Draper, Dons coach Brad Scott said: “It looks like an Achilles, but the severity of it, we’re concerned about it.”
Melbourne vs Fremantle
The Dees subbed out Daniel Turner due to concussion. Jaeger O’Meara appeared to suffer a hamstring injury.
On O’Meara, Freo coach Justin Longmuir said: “We’ll have to wait and see. He looks like he might have done a little hammy. Fingers crossed, but that’s what it looks like so far.”
Adelaide vs GWS Giants
Sid Draper had a first-quarter ankle issue and was subbed out in the third. Daniel Curtin copped a head knock but passed his concussion test.
Darcy Fogarty was hindered by a shoulder issue but played on and Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks said he’d need to be assessed.
Richmond vs Gold Coast
Neither side picked up any injuries.
Sydney vs Port Adelaide
Port coach Ken Hinkley provided an update on Ollie Wines who was subbed out. He said: “Ollie had another one of his little episodes on his heart, which our doctor’s got well under control. He has had, in the past, a little procedure to look after that, obviously it has come back a bit today.
“It sounds really bad when you talk about someone’s heart, but the reality is he’s got a good handle on it, our medical team have got an incredibly good handle on it, so we feel safe enough around what’s going on. We’ll protect Ollie, make sure we do all the tests again this week.”
Hinkley downplayed any injury concern for Travis Boak who spent some time off in the last term. He said: “He just whacked his arm but he went on back after that, so he was fine.”
The Port coach was asked about Connor Rozee‘s role, starting at half-back and playing the second half on ball. He said: “We can do that. As I said last week leading into this game, we can play him forward. He does hit the scoreboard. He’s our captain for a reason, he’s a damn good player.”
Sydney coach Dean Cox said, despite some late cramping, they had picked up no injuries.
Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda
The Dogs subbed out Sam Darcy with a worrying knee injury, amid fears it’s a season-ending ACL. Dogs coach Luke Beveridge said: “I can’t really elaborate until the medicos have got the results of a scan. It’s fair to say that we’re a bit concerned.”
The Dogs have since confirmed Darcy has been cleared of an ACL injury but will still need surgery. The update said: “The Western Bulldogs can confirm that scans have cleared Sam Darcy of an ACL rupture. The 21-year-old has suffered an impaction fracture in his left knee, with associated ligament damage.
“The Club is expecting that surgical management is required to repair this injury, with a definitive timeline to be set in coming weeks.”
Beveridge heaped praise on Marcus Bontempelli who returned from injury with 30 disposals and 2 goals. He said: “I don’t think anyone is (surprised) by what Marcus can do. Kicking the longer goals off a long break is always something that usually takes a while and finding a rhythm, but he was quite outstanding.
“When you’re that good a ball handler, you understand the game as well as him and you’ve got that much courage and presence. Hopefully he’s a handful week-to-week but he’s just been a pro in his rehab.”
Geelong vs Hawthorn
Gryan Miers was concussed after a heavy hit from Conor Nash who’ll likely cop a multi-week suspension from the MRO. Oisin Mullin was a late out with a hip flexor injury.
