The Tuesday injury reports have dropped with updates on Jack Hutchinson, Liam Duggan, Brent Daniels, Hayden Young, Jordan De Goey, Darcy Parish and Callum Mills.
UPDATES
West Coast have confirmed cheap forward Jack Hutchinson will miss a month after picking up a hamstring injury late in their Round 1 game.
Eagles High Performance Manager Mat Inness said: “Jack Hutchinson sustained a moderate grade hamstring in the middle of the last quarter. He won’t be available this week and will likely miss three-to-four weeks.”
But the Eagles had some good news with Liam Duggan cleared of injury. Inness said: “Liam Duggan rolled his ankle in the last quarter against Gold Coast. He’s pulled up really well and he will be available to play this week.”
GWS have the bye this weekend but confirmed in their injury report that Brent Daniels is fine after a hip pointer injury in Round 1. The Giants said: “Daniels will continue to manage the pain but has been cleared to train fully this week.”
Ruckman Kieren Briggs is “progressing through his concussion protocols” and likely to be available in their next game in Round 3.
Melbourne have ruled out Steven May from their Round 2 game due to a fractured larynx. “Based on the advice from specialists, he didn’t play on the weekend, and he will be unavailable for this week,” Melbourne’s AFL High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith said. “We have a follow up review with the specialists this week, which will guide his return.
St Kilda didn’t list Rowan Marshall in their injury report despite having his knee iced up late following a pre-season pelvis injury.
Carlton have declared key forward Charlie Curnow “available to play this week” following a knee issue, adding he’s back to full training.
Fremantle revealed Shai Bolton (leg) needs to pass a fitness test to face Sydney. “Shai is going to be up for a test at main training, we’re just settling down a fibula so if he gets through training, he will be available for selection,” Freo HP Manager Phil Merriman said.
Freo listed Hayden Young (hamstring) as 2 weeks and Sean Darcy (knee/ankle) as 2-3 weeks. Merriman said: “They are now entering the main football program. We need to build up their loads in that sense and we hope to see them back on the field in the next two weeks.”
Collingwood have confirmed both Jordan De Goey and Will Hoskin-Elliott available following injuries, which may impact Harry Perryman’s role.
Richmond noted Jacob Blight (adductor) is a test to play in Round 2, while rookie Josh Smillie is 1-2 weeks off a return from a hamstring injury, so he could be a cheapie to target for a downgrade once he debuts.
Essendon provided a few relevant updates, with Jordan Ridley confirmed into concussion protocols. Will Setterfield (groin soreness) is a chance to return while Darcy Parish is making progress after a back issue and is “currently expected to play next week”.
Another draft target, Callum Mills, is 2-3 weeks off. Sydney’s update said: “Callum is building his running volume this week. He will look to progress his speed and agility next week as a part of his rehabilitation throughout our bye week. He is expected to be unavailable for a further 2-3 weeks.”
Port noted Zak Butters is “making positive progress” in his return from a knee injury but remains 3-5 weeks off.
