We’ll go game-by-game across the AAMI Community Series to offer all the latest insights from coaches into who’s in form, who’s got a good role and the latest injury updates.
Collingwood vs Richmond
Collingwood assistant coach Jordan Roughead
On Nick Daicos’ early exit:
“Nah, the plan with Nick was always to take him out of the game. I’m not sure what the medical report is but I’m sure he’s fine. He had another really strong performance.”
On Harry Perryman:
“It was great to see Pez playing really strongly through the midfield.
On Reef McInnes’ new backline role:
“He’s been great. He’s got some traits that will make him a really good key defender. His clearly got speed and power and his aerial game is really strong. he’s been a great addition to our back end, he’ll have a strong year for us.”
On Brayden Maynard’s foot injury:
“We expect Brayden to play (in Opening Round). He had a bit of soreness through his foot after the game last weekend and we just wanted to really make sure that we set him up to have a really strong season. This was the right selection for this week.”
On Jordan De Goey’s fitness:
“Jordy’s certainly pushing for it. He’s one that we just need to make sure we get his loads to the right level and inject him at the right time. We want to set him up to have a really strong season, so we’re not going to prioritise Opening Round over the rest of the year. We’re just going to make sure we find the right balance with him.”
Tigers assistant coach Chris Newman
On no.1 draft pick Sam Lalor’s availability:
“He’ll obviously go through all the protocols he needs and we’ll give him the best chance. I’m sure the doctors and the medical staff are giving him every chance.”
On Tom Lynch’s availability:
“We know about his AFL ability. He provides a really strong contest for us, but more importantly he provides some experience in our front end. We’re really young in our front end at the moment. The great thing with Tom is he’ll be able to come in and impact straightaway and also provide some really strong guidance for our young boys.”
On Sam Banks and Luke Trainor:
“Banks was one that played a really strong role for us at half-back and on the wing. Trainor came on late and I thought he really showed something. I think he ended with around 4 intercept possessions for a young kid. He showed some real dash and poise with the football.”
