The Melbourne Renegades landed an overseas replacement ahead of Sunday’s game while there were updates on Tom Curran, Marcus Stoinis and Gurinder Sandhu.
TEAM NEWS
The Melbourne Renegades have made four changes for Sunday’s clash with the Melbourne Stars at Marvel Stadium with two new additions named.
Josh Brown returns from a wrist injury and young opener Harry Dixon is added, alongside newcomers Oliver Peake and Tawanda Muyeye
Jonathan Wells (hamstring) and Gurinder Sandhu (sore calf) drop out, along with Xavier Crone and Laurie Evans (ILT20).
Zimbabwe-born Muyeye joins as an overseas replacement for Evans. The Renegades described him as: “A dynamic all-rounder originally from Zimbabwe and now representing the Oval Invincibles and Kent in England’s white ball competitions.
“The 22-year-old is renowned for his explosive batting and athletic fielding, earning a reputation as one of the most exciting emerging players on the global stage.”
Muyeye may be described as an all-rounder, given his off-spin, but he barely bowls in England for Kent or the Invincibles, instead primarily used as a top-order bat. He did play 2 games at 6 for Kent in 2024, which feels like the side’s area of need.
Peake is a promising Australia U19 batsman who is part of the Victorian pathway, coming into the squad to replace the injured Wells.
Ins: Peake, Muyeye, Brown, Dixon / Outs: Wells, Evans, Sandhu, Crone
Renegades squad: Sutherland (c), Bethell, Brown, Dixon, Fraser-McGurk, Harris, Muyeye, O’Neill, Peake, Richardson, Rogers, Seifert, Stow, Zampa
The Stars named a 14-player squad with Dan Lawrence dropping out, headed for the ILT20 like Evans. Brody Couch comes into the group. Marcus Stoinis was named after experiencing hamstring tightness late in their last game.
Tom Curran remains out with a calf injury. The Stars said: “Curran was not considered for selection as he continues his rehabilitation from a calf injury but is targeting a return for the Stars’ final match against the Hurricanes.”
Ins: Couch / Outs: Lawrence
Stars squad: Stoinis (c), Cartwright, Couch, Duckett, Harper, Maxwell, Merlo, Paris, Rogers, Siddle, Steketee, Usama Mir, Warren, Webster
