There were big updates on Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft following their sickening collision but also news on the fitness of Glenn Maxwell, Tom Curran and Michael Neser.
UPDATES
Sydney Thunder pair Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft will both miss their upcoming Round 6 double after a sickening collision in the field.
Bancroft has suffered a broken shoulder and broken nose. Sams and Bancroft were both concussed in the incident and remain in hospital.
Concussion protocols means they’re both out for 12 days, ruling them out of Round 6 games. With the 12-day turnaround, they’d only be available in Round 9 for their January 17 Sydney Smash.
Stars captain Marcus Stoinis offered an update on all-rounder Tom Curran’s calf injury. He said: “I spent the morning with him. He said he’s feeling lot better.
“The physio will see him today. I still think it’s probably another game away. He’s feeling a lot better which is promising.”
Stoinis also declared Glenn Maxwell was fine despite an ankle worry against Brisbane. He said: “Nah he’s good. He’s icing it because he has to after every game. But he’s fine. He did a bit of running. I think it’s just a bit of wear and tear.”
On Hamish McKenzie’s absence, Stoinis added: “We’re missing him. He got home for a little bit during Christmas. He’s in here today. The physios will have a look at him.
“He had a bit of a side strain. In my experience it might be a little bit longer but we’re looking forward to getting him back as soon as possible.”
Renegades captain Will Sutherland spoke about his batting role, having mostly been used at 7. He said: “My role in this team is to come in, ideally if we’re going really well in hand, I can even come up to 6, if we’ve got wickets I can come in at the 16th or 17th and try tee off a bit at the end.”
Sutherland also downplayed any concerns about Josh Brown who spent time off the field. He said: “I didn’t even know that he went off to be honest. I know nothing of it. He’ll be good to go tomorrow.”
Sutherland also hinted that Gurinder Sandhu is the likely inclusion for Fergus O’Neill, while he suggested Jonathon Wells could play soon.
He said: “We do have Gurinder on the sidelines who is an experienced bowler and incredibly talented. Likewise with Jono Wells with the bat, top 5 Big Bash run scorers. If not tomorrow night, they’ll definitely get a chance pretty soon.”
Michael Neser was due to return from a hamstring injury in Friday’s Heat-Sixers washed out game. On his washout, Neser said: “From a personal note, probably handy to give me a couple more days to get fit.
“It actually gives me another chance to get another bowling session under my belt. I feel 100% and ready to go but it gives me another chance to sharpen up.”
