After a relatively uneventful round (besides Matt Short getting injured), we now turn our attention to phase 2 of the SuperCoach schedule: the clean-up.
After all of the masses upon masses of double game rounds, it is time to clear out some of the garbage and have a crack at some fallen guns.
In today’s Devil’s Advocate, we’ll be looking at some of the top targets, a few value pickups and some key Thunder targets ahead of their round 6 double.
The Fallen Guns
A SC Guns favourite on the podcast this year, Finn Allen watch has yielded plenty of stats and chat, and now, we’ve been given the signal to purchase. After 50 off 23 against the Strikers given his lowly price, it’s time to invest and set up a bench loophole for him and his volatile output. His ceiling is massive, so bringing him could get you way ahead of the pack if it pays off.
Of a similar vein, Sherfane Rutherford has a similar ceiling if he is named to bat at 3. Rutherford was listed in the ODI team of the year in 2024, indicating that his form has been strong recently. Of course if named at 6, his price will continue to fall as the season progresses. A key factor is that Rutherford leaves after the Thunder’s double in Round 6, so if you are keen to invest, the time is nearing.
Another fallen gun is Nikhil Chaudhary, whose bowling role has increased in the last couple of games, and has bottomed out at around $100k with a double in the horizon. Not to mention he bats in the top 5, so he has a nice role that has yielded him a fair few points in the last couple of games.
Sydney Thunder targets
The first target is pretty self-explanatory, but Wes Agar who is fresh off back-to-back tons, will have a massive negative breakeven and will be reasonably priced at around the $145k mark. He has looked tremendous at the death with ball in hand, making him an excellent target for round 5.
How can you talk about the Thunder, and not mention David Warner. He’s got all of the class and pedigree in the world, and just scored 86* against the Renegades, so it’s all coming up Warner and he will love pace on the ball at a fast Optus pitch. A strong trade-in candidate for mine.
Finally, Lockie Ferguson’s class and raw pace makes him intriguing for an early buy, especially at the pace-friendly Optus Stadium. He has only had 1 poor score all season, and looked really good in his first 3 games. I expect his form to continue, and I will likely target him in the next 2 rounds due to his quality.
Let’s wrap this up with a quick guide to some of the Captain and Vice Captain options for round 5 that have the ceiling to make or break your round:
VC options
- Wes Agar (plays the 2nd game of the round vs Scorchers)
- Lockie Ferguson (plays the 2nd game of the round vs Scorchers)
- Jason Behrendorff (plays the 2nd game of the round vs Thunder)
- Xavier Bartlett (plays the 1st game of the round vs Sixers)
- Jack Edwards (plays the 1st game of the round vs Heat)
C options
- Jamie Overton (plays the last game of the round vs Hurricanes)
- Marcus Stoinis (plays the 3rd game of the round vs Renegades)
- Will Sutherland (plays the 3rd game of the round vs Stars)
Thank you for reading another Devil’s Advocate, enjoy the peace and quiet of having no double game teams this round, and go set up those loopholes!
Cheers, Nathan (SuperCoach Guns)
