Adelaide Strikers all-rounder superstar Matt Short will miss his side’s New Year’s Day game against the Perth Scorchers with a broken toe is a massive blow in Round 4.
Will Faulkner from Fox Cricket reporting the news, before the Strikers confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Short has been ruled out. Given the injury, it would likely see him miss more than 1 game.
Adelaide’s update said: “Unfortunately our captain Matt Short is a late out tonight with a broken toe he suffered batting in the last game against the Hurricanes.”
Honeyball understands the injury isn’t likely to be season ending for Short but he’ll likely miss mutiple games.
Curiously, Short had appeared on SEN Radio earlier in the day, although there was no talk of the Strikers captain’s injury. Short spoke about Jamie Overton’s quality, and he looms as a pivot option for SuperCoaches captaincy picks.
He said: “We’ve relied on him with the ball. He’s definitely our most valuable player with bat, ball and in the field. He fields in the hot spots. He’s bowling in the power play, through the middle, in the surge and death.”
