Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Will Sutherland failed twice with the bat and didn’t bowl for Prahran across 2 T20 Victoria Premier Cricket games on Saturday.
There were three rounds of T20s across Victorian club cricket on Saturday, with 9:30am, 1pm and 4:30pm starts, allowing several key Renegades and Melbourne Stars players valuable match practice ahead of BBL Round 1.
Sutherland was the big focus, as he bids to recover from a side strain, having been named in both of Prahran’s games.
Batting at 3, Sutherland was bowled second ball for 4 in Prahran’s morning game against Northcote, having hit a boundary first ball. Sutherland didn’t bowl in that game but did take a catch in the field.
Later in the day he suited up again when Prahran faced Kingston Hawthorn, but he only managed 8 from 10 balls, batting at 3. Again, he didn’t bowl.
Renegades bat Josh Brown found some form with Fitzroy Doncaster, blasting 83 from 36 deliveries, with 7 fours and 6 sixes against Greenvale Kangaroos.
Earlier, Brown made 32 from 25, which is positive news for him after a lean campaign in the Abu Dhabi T10 League for the ‘Gades recruit.
‘Gades veteran Kane Richardson got some valuable overs under his belt, but managed 0-47 from 4 overs for Geelong. He didn’t play in Geelong’s early game.
Renegades fast bowler Tom Rogers took 3-22 for Footscray, including 2 wickets in the opening over, of their morning game.
Stars spinner Doug Warren impressed for Melbourne University with 3-12 from 4 overs, plus 1-32 and 19* from 10 balls.
Hurricanes spinner Peter Hatzoglou took 1-30 and 2-26 across Melbourne Uni’s 2 games, but also continued his role as opening batsman, scoring 1 and then 27 off 19.
‘Gades youngster Harry Dixon made 58 from 23 balls for St Kilda, keeping him in the mix for selection.
