Adelaide Strikers all-rounder James Bazley has been ruled out of Queensland’s upcoming Sheffield Shield game with a side strain.
Bazley is seen as a SuperCoach BBL cheapie, coming in at $58k, but this injury may impact his availability for the new season which in exactly one month.
The 29-year-old hasn’t played at club level for Redlands since his sole appearance for Queensland this season, taking 0-38 from 10 overs in a One-Day Cup game against SA on October 25.
It remains to be seen if Bazley is in the Strikers’ best XI anyway, with the side having drafted spinning all-rounder Fabian Allen in the off-season.
Allen appears set to be available for Round 1 of BBL, despite a West Indies’ white-ball series against Bangladesh clashing with the start of BBL|14, having been overlooked in recent squads including the recent games against England.
Allen most recently played for the West Indies in October, playing one T20I in the six-game tour against Sri Lanka.
The other factor impacting Bazley is that English all-rounder Jamie Overton recently returned to bowling during England’s white-ball tour of the West Indies.
Overton hadn’t bowled competitively for six months due to back stress issues, playing for England as a specialist bat. If Overton couldn’t bowl in BBL|14, Bazley would’ve more likely been required.
