Sydney Thunder all-rounder Daniel Sams was the big story in club cricket over the weekend, making his return from injury for Randwick-Petersham with BBL|14 just over a month away.
Sams hasn’t turned out for either NSW or his club this season, but made 24 off 44 for Randwick batting at 6 against Hawkesbury. Sams didn’t bowl as Randwick got through 14 overs late in the day.
Elsewhere, Sixers all-rounder Hayden Kerr was tipped to return from injury via NSW club cricket but didn’t play. Notably, Dan Christian made 130 off 164 for UNSW amid some rumours he’s considering a return to playing ranks.
Joel Davies (5 off 9) and Kurtis Patterson (12 off 29) also both turned out for Manly Warringah and St George respectively but failed with the bat.
Queensland
Renegades recruit Gurinder Sandhu returned from a calf problem with 0-15 from 6 overs for South Brisbane.
Heat youngster Cal Vidler was also back in action after a groin issue, bowling 12 overs and taking 2-21 for Valley for whom Jack Wildermuth (1-20) and Max Bryant (0-37) also bowled.
Strikers bat Matt Renshaw turned out for Toombul but failed with 5 off 32 balls.
WA
Strikers top-order bat D’Arcy Short made 107* from 139 balls for Willetton, with 13 fours and 3 sixes along the way.
Stars spinner Hamish McKenzie was outstanding as Subiaco Floreat claimed an outright win, taking 4-20 from 11 in the first innings, before 3-30 from 10 in the second.
Scorchers death bowler Andrew Tye took 3-69 followed by 2-35 for Scarborough against Mt Lawley. Matt Spoors failed in the first innings, but blasted 86 from 69 in the second.
Perth captain Ashton Turner made 34 from 76 for Fremantle and didn’t bowl.
SA
Strikers spinner Lloyd Pope maintained his good form – after a Player of the Match Shield display – with 5-43 for Kensington against Glenelg. Jason Sangha (35 off 24) and Henry Hunt (14 off 32) struck out.
Mackenzie Harvey couldn’t back up his One-Day Cup ton, getting a second-ball duck for Sturt. Thomas Kelly made 25 off 27 at 3 for Sturt. Ben Manenti took 1-41 from 12 overs for Adelaide.
Victoria
Not a lot with relevance in Victoria, with Stars bat Tom Rogers out for 1 for Ringwood. Jono Merlo, Harry Dixon, Campbell Kellaway and Sam Harper all turned out in the field for uneventful afternoons. Humorously, Harper trundled down a few overs without success.
Tasmania
Hurricanes cheapie Billy Stanlake took 4-21 from 10 overs with 4 maidens for GN Raiders before making 19* from 16.
Mitch Owen made 42 off 43 at first drop for New Town in that game, taking 1-52 from 10 overs.
Caleb Jewell scored 100 from 110 for North Hobart, while Strikers bat Jake Weatherald smoked 70 from 47 at 3 for Kingborough.
Nathan Ellis took 4-11, while Nikhil Chaudhary blasted 52 from 40 at first drop before taking 1-59 from 9 for Glenorchy.
