One way to get creative in the final round of the AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach season is monitoring role changes, midfield time and kick-ins which all lead to more scoring opportunities.
This will help justify trade-ins and trade-outs, so we’ve dug deep to offer some critical insights.
With one round to go, we’re keeping this week’s edition very simple in format.
Friday night loops
Steele Sidebottom stepped into Collingwood’s midfield set-up with 81% CBAs, but playing a tagging role on Lachie Neale. He scored 110/87 and they won, so maybe they do that again?
As for Collingwood’s Friday opponent Melbourne, with Clayton Oliver out, Alex Neal-Bullen (53%) and Judd McVee (60%) benefited with an increase of CBAs. Neal-Bullen scored a handy 105/119 while McVee only managed 46/49.
Impact of players returning
Zac Fisher’s return impacted Colby McKercher negatively, particularly taking kick-ins off him, having almost monopolized them recently. Fisher had 5 kick-ins and McKercher had 6. Fisher scored 100/102 and Colby managed 73/97.
Stephen Coniglio returned for GWS with 55% CBAs, but James Peatling still attended 58% centre bounces. However, Peatling’s score fell off a cliff, with only 33/40.
Other notes
- Looking ahead, Callum Mills has moved into contention for defender status in 2025, playing a backline role for Sydney that included a kick-in last round. He scored 91/97 and with a full pre-season you’d imagine that’d be sustainable.
- For the second straight week, Sam Flanders had low CBAs at 7%, with Alex Davies (50%) and the returning Touk Miller (30%) moving in. Flanders also had zero kick-ins and scored 95/120. Maybe the role doesn’t matter.
- Sam Darcy didn’t directly benefit from Tim English’s absence, attending 17% centre bounces to help his 133/146 fuelled by 7 goals. Rory Lobb had 70% CBAs playing ruck.
