The weekly injury reports have dropped on Tuesday afternoon with critical updates on Harry Sheezel, Tim English and Mattaes Phillipou leading the way.
North have confirmed Harry Sheezel will note play in Round 24 after picking up an ankle knock against West Coast in Round 22.
North Melbourne head of performance Kevin White said: “Harry over the course of the back end of last week was slower with his progression and recovery with that ankle injury than how he initially responded.
“Although he’s tracking more positively today (Tuesday), he is still in a moonboot this week to look after that ankle, but he’ll run out of time to pass through clearance to play this weekend.”
The Western Bulldogs have listed Tim English as a “test” to recover from his own ankle complaint ahead of their must-win game against GWS, but noted he’s an “outside chance”.
Dogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said: “Tim continues to recover from his ankle injury in line with our expectation. He is being incredibly diligent and professional to do everything possible to put himself in the frame for selection.
“Although he is still more unlikely than likely for this weekend, we will give him every opportunity to prove his fitness and decide on his availability following our main training session on Friday.”
St Kilda are hopeful that Mattaes Phillipou will play against Carlton on Sunday, having missed their past two games due to a virus.
The Saints update said: “Phillipou will aim to return to football this week, having overcome his recent illness.”
Sydney are also hopeful on Chad Warner playing this weekend after missing last game with a calf issue. The Swans update said: “Chad was unavailable for the match against Essendon due to calf soreness. He will be a test to play this weekend against Adelaide.”
Carlton have listed Charlie Curnow (ankle) as a “test” this week along with Mitch McGovern who has hamstring tightness. Harry McKay is listed as “one week” with a quad problem, so won’t play in Round 24.
Fremantle have ruled out forward Josh Treacy, while stated ruckman Sean Darcy ran at training on Tuesday and is “likely to be available for selection if he can complete Thursday’s main training” following a knee complaint, which will impact Luke Jackson’s role and Liam Reidy’s job security.
Fremantle High-Performance Manager Phil Merriman said: “Sean (Darcy) had a jog today and felt pretty good. He will go into main training on Thursday to put his name up for availability.”
Hawthorn have listed Jack Scrimshaw as a “test” after requiring surgery on a dislocated finger that had a flesh wound too. The Hawks also offered an update on Will Day (SC joint).
Hawks High Performance Manager Peter Burge said: “He has an SC Joint issue. There’s been a little bit of a dislocation/ subluxation movement of the bones and the ligaments that support that. The advice we’ve been given, we’ve seen a number of specialists, our medical team here is very thorough and we’ve got all the information we need now.
“It’s really down to function and how he feels and pain and all those sorts of things but again, we’ve got to get beyond this week’s game first. He will start running later this week and start moving which will be great, we can get him going again. Beyond that, we’ll reassess the football participation but we need to complete this week’s game first.”
Brisbane haven’t ruled out Jarrod Berry for Round 24 yet after being subbed out with a hamstring injury on the weekend.
“The Lions update said: Berry had the scans on Monday after being subbed out at quarter-time of Saturday’s match with Collingwood due to hamstring tightness. The midfielder was running at training on Tuesday, with the club to wait until after its main training session on Thursday before making a final decision.”
Essendon have ruled out Jordan Ridley this round, with their update stating: “Ridley hasn’t fully recovered from a hip injury.”
West Coast have ruled out key defenders Jeremy McGovern (thumb) and Tom Barrass (back/hamstring) from their final round game against Geelong, opening the door for some youngsters.
Geelong have confirmed Sam De Koning (knee) will miss again and Melbourne revealed Tom Sparrow’s ankle injury will see him miss Round 24.
