Last week had some huge scores from the likes of Marcus Bontempelli and Tristan Xerri and I think they back it up again this week!
ROUND 22 VICE CAPTAINS
Errol Gulden
For the Swans to bounce back, their midfielders need to win it at the coal face. Collingwood have lost some grunt with DeGoey ending his season and I don’t think they have anyone that has the running power to match Errol. He enjoys the match up of Collingwood with them being his second best career average of 112.3 over 3 appearances which includes 156 in 2023. Last week Collingwood gave up some captain friendly scores to midfielders including Hewett 135 and Cripps 125. I think he will lock away a solid score early in the round so you can put your feet up for the weekend.
Josh Dunkley
I was backing him earlier in the season in my articles and as soon as I jumped off he went bang! So I am sticking with him for one more week. When they met back in round 7 he scored 120 SuperCoach points he had a game high 9 tackles. A win here cements a top 2 spot and a step closer to pinching the unthinkable of top spot off Sydney. Dunk’s has enjoyed the Gabba this season and posted some massive scores including 140, 143 and 162 SuperCoach points. He will be in plenty of CBA’s and I’m feeling a big score.
Harry Sheezel
We all thought Harry was in for a huge score last week but it just didn’t eventuate. I watched the first quarter and he was left at half forward while Richmond had the first 5 scoring shots. It wasn’t until the back end of the quarter that he was moved up onto the ball and still finished the quarter around 20 points. I did’t get to see the whole game but his stats still read quite well. He has a career average of 119 over 3 games V Eagles. Sheezel is averaging 129 at the venue this season including 160 SuperCoach points in recent weeks against Geelong. Some scores that midfielders have produced read quite well for Sheezel owners including Rowell 122, Brayshaw 137 and Sinclair 150. He is a fantastic pick this week!
Tristan Xerri
This guy has to be seriously considered for All Australian ruck. North knew what they were doing when they moved Goldy on to give him the number one ruck role. He has the 3rd highest 5 round average in the league. He is coming off a 151 against Geelong and 141 on the weekend against Nankervis. Eagles are the easiest for opposition rucks to score against and in recent weeks have conceded 161 to Witts, 124 to Darcy and 123 to Marshall. He is an absolute tackling beast! Pick of the round!
ROUND 22 CAPTAINS
Zak Butters
His career numbers against Melbourne are a bit all over the place but what stands out is his 184 SuperCoach points in 2023. The Dees have given up some massive scores in recent weeks including Bont 182, Treloar 149, Callaghan 122, Serong 140 and Brayshaw 137 SuperCoach points. You can’t ignore these numbers and we know the ceiling Butters can produce. Lock him in for a big score this week.
Marcus Bontempelli
The Bont has posted some seriously large scores against the crows including a 199 back in 2020. He has his second best career average against Adelaide of 119.3 over 9 matches. He also loves playing at Adelaide Oval which is also his second best average of 124.1 over 12 appearances. All his history is pointing in the direction of a monster score. If Xerri fails Ill give him the captaincy!
POD CAPTAIN:
Andrew Brayshaw (5%)
I feel Brayshaw has always been there abouts with his scoring but has lacked consistency. In saying that you can not get any more consistent than posting three 137’s in a row! He has the second highest 5 round average of all players in the league of 127.8. Another interesting observation is Geelong being the team that he boasts his highest career average against of 109 SuperCoach points and his two recent scores against Geelong are 137 and 134 SuperCoach ponts. Quite like him as a POD option this week!
