Fantasy finals are here! Get a leg up in your league match ups by nailing your VC/C picks for round 21!
The season is close to over, we are running out of time to improve our rankings and are potentially in elimination finals in our leagues. Nailing your Captain is as important as it will ever be over these last 4 weeks of the season as everyone’s teams get more and more similar the further along the season goes. So who should we be backing in to get a leg up on our competition this week?
Vice-Captains
Adam Treloar is the easy an obvious choice for VC this week for his 8.8% of owners. Averaging 131 over his last 3 and 113 for the year, he has been on an absolute tear this season. Coming up against Melbourne who allowed Whitfield, Green and Callaghan over 33 disposals each last week, whilst Serong and Brayshaw had 36 and 41 of their own the week before, there will be plenty of ball to be had out there for Treloar to rack up. He has shown a ceiling of 154 in round 9 against the Tigers, so there are no issues there. Clear top VC option.
Tim English and Marcus Bontempelli are other options in this game, with English scoring 113 against the Dees in round 1, where as Bont only managed 90. English is a bit up and down and both haven’t been in top form recently, so I would ideally be looking elsewhere, but they do both have huge ceilings, so they have to be given some thought.
The other low ownership man I would be taking a look at if I wasn’t a Treloar owner is Noah Anderson. Only owned by 4% of the comp, Noah could be a massive differential as your VC this week as he comes up against West Coast. He scored 111 in this match up earlier in the year, and has shown a massive ceilings at times throughout the year, including a score of 154 in round 5. He has 3 scores over 140 for the year, so as a free hit VC option, I would be taking a look this week.
If you need someone to fall back on as your Captaincy option later in the round, or would rather hold onto your VC for someone else later in the week, see below my top 5 options for round 21!
Captains
- Dayne Zorko
Back in form with scores of 131 and 139 in the last 2 weeks, Zorko has an appointment with the Saints in the final game of the round. He has already scored 125 against them this year, and there is no reason to expect anything different this week, playing under the roof meaning there will be plenty of opportunities for him to rack up some +6s. 184 is his top score for the season, so we know that the ceiling is as good as anyone in the comp. Top option.
- Harry Sheezel
This kid just keeps getting better and better. 36 disposals and a goal last week against Geelong, and this week comes up against Richmond, who North should be expecting to knock off this week, meaning even more opportunity to have the ball in his hands and hit the score board this week. Last week the Tigers allowed Daicos to have 42 disposals and 128 fantasy points, a couple of weeks before that it was Whitfield and Tom Green with 132 and 123 fantasy points respectively against the Tiges. There will be points there for Sheezel this week, and we know how good he is, with 2 scores of 134 in the last 4 weeks.
- Tristan Xerri
Sheez’s teammate, Tristan Xerri announced to the world last week that he is not only consistent, he also has a ceiling. 156 points from 25 touches and 56 hit outs is a huge game, let alone when you add in 8 tackles! Sure, he wont have another De Koning to beat up this week, but he probably will have Nankervis, who has allowed some monster score to opposition rucks this year, like Kieren Briggs 3 weeks ago, who scored 140. Xerri is averaging 124 over his last 5 games, with 3 of those scores being over 124. A low score of 94 in his last 10 weeks, even if he has a bad game, it has actually gotten to a point where you can say you will be safer with Xerri than a lot of our other premos who are at risk of a tag.
- Josh Dunkley
Another option to bring you home in the last game of the round, Dunkley bounced back from a poor showing a couple of weeks ago with a 128 last week. Only scored 87 against the Saints earlier in the year, but he has scored 5 tons from 6 games since that day, including a 158 and 140. Has been in great form, has a good ceiling and is another great fallback Captain option this week!
- Tom Stewart
Wow, hasn’t this guy turned his form around in the second half of the season. 5 tons in a row, 3 of them over 122, and an average of 118 in that time. Even earlier in the year when he wasn’t in the role or the form that he is in now, Stewart had 114 points against the Crows in round 2, and meets them again this week. It isn’t the perfect match up that some of the others have this week, but with the form that he has been in, he makes the cut as the 5th best option this week.
