Wednesday’s early mail is in with updates on Max Gawn, Jordan De Goey, Nathan Kreuger, Zane Trew, James Rowbottom and much more.
Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said Max Gawn had pulled up well from his return game and should be fine to back up in Round 21.
Goodwin said: “He’s pulled up well. He won’t do a lot this week. Obviously short turnaround for us. It’s about getting his body right, he’s a mature player, he’s had a big load throughout the year. He’ll have a quiet week leading into the weekend. He’s just going to get better over the next few weeks.”
West Coast caretaker coach Jarrad Schofield offered an update on Zane Trew’s neck injury. He told 7NewsPerth: “Early finish to the game. At this stage, he’s got a bit of a neck sprain.
“We’ll assess him throughout the week and see if he passes all the medical tests. He should be right for selection.”
Schofield said Jeremy McGovern was close to playing last week after a ribs issue and would need to get through training to prove his availability.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae indicated Nathan Kreuger was on track to be available this weekend, along with Beau McCreery and Oleg Markov.
McRae said: “Bit more certain about those three. They trained over the weekend and trained well. Here we are on Tuesday, so there’s a bit of time. But all going to plan, those 3 would be available for selection.”
The Pies coach was less confident on Jordan De Goey’s availability having missed last game due to an ongoing groin issue. He said: “This is what I like about early press conferences. It is too far out. I’m still unsure, I really am. It probably puts him in the grey category.”
Nat Fyfe’s one-game ban was upheld at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night and Dockers coach Justin Longmuir told 7NewsPerth that Matthew Johnson was in the mix to replace him after missing two games with a foot issue, assuming he gets through training.
Sydney coach John Longmire spoke about James Rowbottom’s availability after missing the past few games. He said: “Yeah, he’ll be back this week. It’s good to have him back. He’s a crash and bash player. He’ll train this week and come back into the team. He’s a very important player for us.”
Longmire said Will Hayward was a “little bit sore” but hopeful on his availability. The Swans coach was also hopeful on Lewis Melican with his injury “not as bad as what we thought”.
