It’s important at this point of the season to jump on and ride the wave of those picks who are running the hottest! It’s so easy to get stuck in the rigid ways of basing your decisions on the season average or the popularity of a pick. When in reality, you have a shot a much higher upside to back in those players who are in less teams and are absolutely flying knowing they only need to replicate this form for four more weeks! Below, I’ve targeted 5 of the best names that perfectly fall within this category!
Adam Treloar -$611k (MID) – 4%
The barnstorming Pups are running riot as the most in form team in the competition, and Adam Treloar’s rise to SuperCoach fame has been a catalyst to this finals push. Following his 40-disposal game against one of toughest midfield opposition AND in his lowest centre bounce % attended all year, Treloar has pushed his 3-round average to an absurd 141 SuperCoach points. He also gets his chance to feast on a decimated Dee’s midfield this week as he has every chance to continue this incredible hot streak. With the Crows and North to follow, Adam looms large across the SuperCoach finals and the fact he is only found in 4% of teams, he is the perfect luxury sideways move to target this week and get a leg up on your opposition over the next 4 weeks. Every game is a must win game for the Bulldogs now. so there is no concern around a potential rest for the injury prone Treloar and he can even be considered an unreal VC/C this week and for weeks to come as well!
Tom Stewart – $552k (DEF) – 23%
Plenty in the media and the AFL fanbase were quick to write off and almost retire this champion after his poor start to the year, although the 5-time all Australia is back, and back in a BIG way. Chris Scott has found a new role in the midfield before floating back and this has freed him up like a dream. He now has a 6-round average of 114 SuperCoach points including most recent scores of 139 and 121! Seeing as he starts in the middle and then floats back as the designator kicker, it’s important to take into consideration how his draw is for both roles. For inside midfielders, Geelong’s next three fixtures are all neutral followed up by the Eagles in the last round as a big positive matchup. For designated kickers, his run ranks as negative this week, although he then has two of the most positive matchups before ending with the neutral Eagles. So overall, it’s an excellent run to target, he’s cheap, he’s back in form and he is the perfect luxury trade or injury cover move!
Matt Roberts – $380k (DEF/MID) – 9%
Any rich teams out there that are stacked with an abundance of trades, move along. This is for all the broke boys! One of the best cash cows we had this year has quickly stormed back into SuperCoach relevancy with his recall into the senior side and into his old half back role. Yes, that’s right, none of that gross wing stuff that led to us all jumping ship, It’s pure half back junk. He was even back on kick ins, leading the Swans along with Blakey with five each. Following his MAMMOTH 161 points on the weekend against the Dogs, Roberts now has a 3-round average of 123 SuperCoach points which is crazy to believe. His next three games consist of two neutral matchups and a big positive one in the Pies in R22 before a negative Adelaide in the SuperCoach grand final. These are all based on designator kickers for the Swans, so yes, it’s not ideal, but his price point and the potential loophole with someone like Colby McKercher between the defence and the midfield could be a sneaky budget solution to any SuperCoach problems that may arise this round.
Andrew Brayshaw – $580k (MID) – 4%
A forgotten SuperCoach gem from seasons past has emerged his head and said, hey, what about me? While everyone turned their head towards Caleb Serong at multiple points in the 2024 season, is it finally time to recognise that Andy might actually be the better pick? After back-to-back 137’s, Brayshaw now has a 6-round SuperCoach average of 120 points including 4 out of these 6 scores exceeding the 128-point mark. This form looks almost certain to continue as Freo face the Dons and the Cats over the next two weeks who both are huge positive matchups for inside midfielders. He does unfortunately follow these up with two negative matchups in GWS and Port, although with the latter being at Optus Stadium and how I also expect Brayshaw to stay behind Serong and Clark in the attention from opposition pecking order, I can see this hot vein of form continuing. Along with Treloar, he also only finds himself in less than 4% of sides, so if you’re in need of a differential to help get you across the line in your SuperCoach final, Andy could definitely be your man!
Cam Rayner – $453k (MID/FWD) – 3%
This pick just screams FUN. There’s nothing better than the late season sillies where you forget most rigid and boring rules of SuperCoach and just have fun by launching into a point of difference who could explode in the short period of time we have left. Cam Rayner absolutely qualifies for this. He has been a catalyst to Brisbane turn around in form and looks to finally be living up to his hype that came from his draft year. He has worked himself nicely into a 3-round average of 111 points and finds a beautiful run of 4 fixtures to round out the season. It’s important to note that CBA percentages can be quite deceptive. Over the last 3 weeks, Rayner’s sits at just 16% per game, although his time around the ball has definitely increased. St Kilda, Collingwood and Essendon are three of his last 4 matchups and all are great opposition for inside midfielders and general forwards which he has become a dangerous hybrid of. With Brisbane absolutely humming and looking to secure that Top 2 spot, the fixtures, the cheap price point and the overall fun factor, I’m all for launching into this pick for a budget friendly differential if your funds are running dry!
