Speakin to reporters on Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s game with Fremantle, Beveridge said about Bontempelli: “Yeah he has been ill. He was crook a couple of weeks ago too, before the Collingwood game and he came out and played an extremely influential game.

“He hasn’t trained with the group this week. He comes in today, it’s a pretty early game tomorrow, so we’ll hardly do anything at our captain’s run. He’s had a different preparation. As you’re aware and what you can understand with him, it’ll take something pretty significant to stop him from playing. But hopefully he’s not affected by it too much but there’s no doubt he will a little bit.”

Beveridge was asked about Rory Lobb’s status, following an ankle injury but said he’d “definitely playing”. He also said second-year player Jedd Busslinger was “tracking in the right direction” but not yet ready to debut, despite being named an emergency.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae declared Nick Daicos is fit to play in Sunday’s game against North Melbourne after training fully on Friday following a shin concern.

The Pies posted on Twitter: “Fly has confirmed Nick has overcome his shin injury and will play on Sunday at Marvel Stadium.”

Port coach Ken Hinkley said Ryan Burton’s foot injury would likely keep him out for 1-2 weeks.

North Melbourne have confirmed mid-season draftee Brynn Teakle will make his club debut this weekend.

Melbourne confirmed Christian Petracca’s season is over following Monday’s injury where he suffered four broken ribs and a lacerated spleen.

The Demons update said: “Following medical advice, Petracca will be unable to return to contact training for a minimum of 12 weeks, meaning the Demons midfielder will only be eligible to return to training during the AFL finals series. Petracca has recently been moved out of the ICU and to a general ward, where he remains in good spirits despite the unfortunate news.”

More to come with press conferences with Craig McRae and Alastair Clarkson later today.
