Connor Rozee, Ollie Wines and Elliot Yeo have all been given the green light to play this weekend, while Justin Longmuir elaborated on how Sean Darcy will impact Luke Jackson.
UPDATES
Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley confirmed that Connor Rozee (hamstring) and Ollie Wines (heart palpitations) will both return this week.
On Rozee, Hinkley said: “He has had a fair bit (of training); more than enough. Probably more than he wanted. I live and learn. I am not immune to mistakes. I have learned from that (call to play Rozee in the derby). I am doing my absolute best to make sure it does not happen again.”
On Wines, he said: “He is really well. It sounds terrible when we talk of a player’s heart, but Ollie is really comfortable with how it is treated. He takes comfort that it has not happened often. He has this week had all the right checks by all the specialists who have ticked it off. Ollie is very happy with how he sits right now.”
Jordon Sweet returns to ruck for Port with Dante Visentini dropped, but Sweet’s job security isn’t great, with Hinkley revealing Ivan Soldo could return next weekend in Round 12.
West Coast coach Adam Simpson has declared Elliot Yeo will play this weekend against Adelaide following a calf injury. Simpson said: “Yeah he’ll play. He’ll come in for Luke Edwards, one change this week.”
Simpson also confirmed Tyrell Dewar would be the sub again, while he spoke about potential debutant Clay Hall, stating: “He’s getting there… But maybe not quite ready.”
On Dewar, Simpson said: “We don’t think he’s far off being a regular in our side but we’ll see how we go.”
Geelong coach Chris Scott offered an update on Cam Guthrie who’ll miss with an Achilles injury. He said: “Cam Guthrie just has an Achilles issue that has flared up a bit that our medical staff are keen to get on top of. It’ll be short term but having said that he does need some continuity in terms of his training and playing. While we’re pretty confident he’ll get back, we just need to be thoughtful about his reintegration. We don’t want him missing too much training and if games get in the way we’ll hold him back.”
Sean Darcy has been named in Fremantle’s side and coach Justin Longmuir confirmed on Thursday he would play, but also discussed the mix with Luke Jackson.
Longmuir said: “He will, he’ll come back in. got through training well the other day… Jacko will be our second ruck and play a bit of forward time, bit of mid time.”
He added: “It allows us to play three talls down forward. It gives us a bit more flexibility to use Luke through the middle and in other areas.”
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell spoke about Will Day’s role having recently returned from injury. He said: “I think will is finding his feet and he’s getting back into some of his better form. We’re moving him around a little bit, we do miss his pressure around the ball when he’s not there.”
Mitchell also discussed the selection of Ethan Phillips, who debuted last week. He said: “We’re a bit torn on that at the minute. We’ve got training today, we’ll see where that lands later today. I think Easy did a great job, he was sound and did what was required. Whether or not he plays this week, we’ve seen enough to show he’s capable at the level.”
The Hawks coach wasn’t asked about James Sicily who has been named in the team following a few games out with a shoulder issue.
Carlton coach Michael Voss spoke about Tom De Koning’s sole ruck role, with Marc Pittonet out for a “short term” with injury. Voss said: “Tom comes in (to the mix), simple as that. Not much changes. Tom’s done a great job, we started the season with him being able to do that. It probably means we look a bit different forward of the ball at different times.”
