What a round! Premiums were firing left, right and centre while all our rookies were dropping like flies! A pivotal round of SuperCoach trading is ahead of us, where we all look to amend these fallen cash generators. To help? We have a ‘Rookie TRADE OUT Tier List’ within…
Will Graham – $117k (DEF/MID) – 9%
As I mentioned last week, his draft profile screamed SuperCoach scoring. The one concern was his time on ground percentage as his endurance was a concern as a junior. He was able to increase this percentage up to 74% which is a bit better as he again had 40%+ centre bounces attended. He was only able to collect 14 touches, but he made up for this by matching this with an awesome 14 tackles! This should mean his job security is safer and with the -91 breakeven, he should be your main downgrade option if you went early on Clohesy last week. GET IN.
Sam Clohesy – $102k (DEF) – 44%
This man featured heavily in my trade talk article last week but frankly, there’s not much else to be said… Scores of 108 and 124 with a breakeven of -174 means he’s on world record watch for the single biggest price rise in SuperCoach history. He will need a score of around 100 to break Errol Guldens record. NON NEGTIONABLE GET.
Charlie Comben – $227k (FWD) – 9%
Yet another pick I was hot on last week. GMHBA is always one of the hardest trips in football, so I usually treat the scoring down there as an anomaly… Although, its hard to not investigate the fact if Biggie’s addition into the defence will affect Comben’s ability to peel off. Looking closer at his role the last two weeks, he is playing key defence and will take one of the two bigger players the opposition has. This isn’t as ideal as playing the loose 3rd defender, but he’s shown over the first two weeks the natural ability to peel off. Clarkson in the pre-game did say that coming into his first game, they still considered him a chance to be a forward, but they tried him down back to end pleasantly surprised. I think he’s done enough to hold this new role now and although he may not be the F5/F6 scoring saving grace player we thought he might be last week; I think he will be reliable enough to pay the $227k. CONSIDER.
Sam Walsh – $576k (MID) – 1%
WOW. It’s all you can say. To go from potentially needing back surgery 2 to 3 weeks ago, to attending 70% centre bounces and having 34 touches, 15 contested, 13 tackles and 8 clearances is truly remarkable. After his finals series last year, we all pencilled him in to take him Round 1 this year but another injury prevented us from doing this. Although chasing the 166 points seems tempting, I see no reason to get him this week. The Adelaide midfield have been easy to beat up, so I’d prefer to see him play another game against good opposition in the Giants this week and re-assess from there. The year we get Walsh having a full pre-season, this guy will genuinely be M1 for the year. WATCHLIST.
Bigoa Nyuon – $123k (FWD) – 0%
I was genuinely so impressed with this guy’s game on the weekend, 19 touches, 7 contested, 7 marks and he even snuck in 2 kick outs. There is always going to be competition for spots in that North backline as they try and determine who they want, but I think he has done enough to give himself a decent run at AFL footy in that side. He’s emergence as I said, I think has hampered Comben slightly, but its more you can look at saving the 100k on Comben, do something elsewhere this week, and target Biggie next week. My rule on rookies is to not go early and this is one I wouldn’t. Don’t get caught in the trap of Clohesy working early, this is rare. Norths slow, chip mark game style should suit him, and I’d be confident going him next week. WATCHLIST.
Elliot Yeo – $530k (DEF) -14%
YEO MY GOODNESS ALRIGHT! This guy is seriously not getting talked about enough. 27 touches, 19 contested, 15 clearances and 2 goals! Absurd numbers not achieved since Dusty in 2017… Just watching him in the stoppage, diving in with clean hands dishing it out in traffic is truly remarkable. He’s on track to have his career best year and it looks as though his classic trip overseas to fix his soft tissue injuries has worked a treat. The game style he has is absolutely built for SuperCoach. He’s averaging 115 this year, but two of his games were severely hampered by clangers that can creep into his game. It’s a huge risk to take now you’ve missed the scoring, but I don’t think its too late to jump on at this price. It’s still very cheap for an upgrade target but with his BE of 14, its now or never. Whose brave enough to tempt fate with the injury history? MUST CONSIDER.
Dayne Zorko -$528k (FWD/MID) – 4%
Hear me out, this pick screams YUCK. Trust me, I know, it’s red flag central. Although in a depleted forward line we must get creative. He has taken Colemans role and he’s averaging 29 touches and 6 marks per game over his last 3. He has already had one of his byes, he takes kick ins, and he swears by that this “Needle Guy” has saved his career from injuries…. Can you buy into this? You be the judge; the video is over on Channel 7 news Queensland. The obvious concerns with Zorko are his age and injury history, but it’s also important to note that Connor Mckenna is also due to be back this week which could affect his role and kick ins. The breakeven is 88, so you could probably get away with having another look with Mckenna in the same side. It might be time to get some Zork on your Fork… CONSIDER.
Luke Jackson – $561k (RUC/FWD) – 46%
This has been a rollercoaster of a pick. Non owners were hating themselves after his 178 in Round 2, but let’s be frank, he’s done a whole lot of nothing since… Now owners are in the worse spot of the two, as Sean Darcy looms as an inclusion into the side this week. We’ve already missed Jackson at top price as he’s just dropped 36k and he looks to drop heavily again with a breakeven of 156 this week. So, if you plan on offloading him its now or never. The issue is Freo play the Eagles this week, so even if he gets a 50/50 ruck split, he gets a chance to dominate Bailey Williams in the middle, and then rest forward to kick a bag on the Eagles defence who just struggled to contain Lefau… I think I’ll be holding, but I can see merit in trading him to a premium you may have missed as well. EXPENDABLE.
‘Rookie TRADE OUT Tier List’ –
Usually within this article, I run through 8 or so of the most traded out players in SuperCoach. This week I’m going to run with a tier list instead and rank the order of necessity that each rookie requires a trade out. 8 of the top 9 players traded out in Supercoach this week are rookies… This puts emphasis on the nosedive into stunted growth that so many of our popular rookies have forced upon us and we’re in dire need to fix.
1) Colby McKercher – $282k – 101 BE – This rank is purely on the basis he plays, if he misses this week you can hold him for another week as his price won’t be affected. But if he lines up, the BE means you’d have to hold for a minimum 5-6 weeks to get the cash generation going again.
2) Jhye Clark – $183k – 74 BE – Just a must go now, this pick is dead.
3) Jack Carroll – $242k – 46 BE – Walsh back has killed this pick, his BE is holdable if you have other issues. Although if he gets the sub vest again, he must go.
4) “The Dead Rookie” – I’d try and use this week to fix a Coffield, Hore, Pink, Sexton type etc if you still own one of these guys.
5) Caleb Windsor – $251k – 44 BE – He is on the bye so ideally you move him, but his price won’t change at least. Don’t see any upside in holding him through the bye.
6) Aaron Cadman – $271k – 40 BE – He has done nothing wrong and his BE is still within reach, but he has nice money on his head to facilitate trades if needed.
7) Blake Howes – $226k – 21 BE – Yes, he’s on the bye, but ideally, I think you keep him with Salem’s injury. There is every chance he spikes up to 275-300k.
8) Buku Khamis – $258k – 30 BE – Would prefer to hold, I think his role is capable of a spike 70-80 and he gets the Saints this week with a depleted forward line to help this. If he stays in the team hold.
9) Ryley Sanders – $310k 49 BE – I think he is a hold. I can’t see him subbing him again unless its punishment for the dummy spit, but if he isn’t, he gets a nice fixture v the Saints to start cash generation again.
