Round 1 showed us some massive scores from premium players. Personally I had a terrible round but I was very happy with my vice captain and captain picks. I made 9 selections and if you average out the 9 scores it was an average of 131.7 Points. Let’s hope we can continue this form!
ROUND 2 VICE CAPTAIN OPTIONS:
Nick Daicos
Kicking off on Thursday night between Collingwood and St Kilda. How can you go past Daicos? His last two games against the Saints he has managed 128 and 98 points. After scoring 131 in Round 0 and 135 in Round 1, you’d be crazy not to have a free hit at his score. In the preseason matchup between Kangas v Saints, The two highest scorers were half backs Fisher 132 and Sheezel 102. They had a total of 68 disposals between them. If Nick Daicos gets a free license to roam, look out!
Jack Steele
Jack Steele showed in the preseason that he is back to his contested best with 9 tackles, 12 contested possessions and scoring 111 points, then followed it up in Round 1 with 119 against Geelong. Collingwood gave up an average of 134.3 points to Sydney’s to Heeney, Warner and Rowbottom in Round 1 which is a pleasing sign for the Saints onballer. If you don’t have Nick Daicos, I’d be looking this way. His last 3 versus Collingwood have been 97, 154 and 73.
Caleb Serong
Serong was my POD pick last week and he was the player of the round! He totalled 46 disposals of which 21 were contested at 80%, 7 tackles for 170 points. Lining up against the Kangaroos who gave away 152 points to Tom Green last weekend he seems like a definite pick for owners. His last 3 scores versus the Kangaroos have been 101, 117 and 118. Ride that wave of form!
ROUND 2 CAPTAIN OPTIONS:
Max Gawn
I’ll be at this game for a mates bucks which should be good fun and I am hoping to see Gawn dominate! Dees V Hawks on Saturday will host a plethora of SuperCoach relevant players. Gawn doesn’t have an amazing record against the Hawks recently but he has to be a serious option with Reeves giving up 134 points to English in the preseason. Max was at his dominant best in Round 1, amassing 162 points against the Dogs. Max’s previous 2 games have not been amazing against the Hawks but if you delve a little further from 2016 to 2022 he averaged a massive 143.25 over 8 games and a career average of 131.7 points. He looks like a man on a mission and has to be my pick of the round.
Christian Petracca
Hawthorn were absolutely dominated at center clearance in Round 1 against Essendon and with the likes of Gawn, Petracca, Viney and Oliver I’d imagine we will see a similar trend. I always like picking a captain that plays on the ball and also hits the scoreboard. Petracca is such a bull and is such a professional. He enjoys playing the Hawks with his last 6 games going 148, 106, 131, 108, 125 and 160 I think he is a solid captain option for the round.
Brodie Grundy
This pick has an element of risk with the amount of frees he has given away which has totalled 11 over the first two rounds. It’s a huge game for both parties and some players in this game enjoy playing each other. Grundy was on fire in the opening round scoring 139 against Gawn and enjoys the Essendon match up with his last 3 scores going 128, 129 and 153. With Essendon’s ruck stocks either aging (Goldy) or underdone (Draper) I’d imagine his follow up work will score well against the Bombers. He was a little disappointing in Round 1 but if he cuts out his frees against, his score becomes back up to be captain worthy.
Marcus Bontempelli
Like I said last week, this will be the name we see appear most weeks. He looked slick in Round 1, hitting the scoreboard with a goal and scoring 126 points. His last 3 against The Suns have all been captain friendly scores of 124, 130 and 133. Laird and Crouch both managed captain worthy scores last week against the Suns and I’d imagine that the Bont will do the same.
Tom Green
Last but not least is Tom Green. Green is someone I believe can win the Brownlow. He is a contested beast and showing he can add the string to his bow of hitting the scoreboard as he has proven in the opening rounds. He was absolutely dominant in Round 1 against the Kangaroos collecting 37 disposals, 9 tackles, 1 goal, 497 meters gained and scoring 152 points. His last 3 against the Eagles have been 106, 102, 123 and a career average against the Eagles of 110. You’d be mad not to have a go as an owner.
P.O.D Captain:
Josh Kelly
Once again I like the matchup of Kelly versus the Eagles. Scoring 116 points in Round 1, he had a massive 87% TOG, managed 24 disposals at 88% efficiency, 18 CBAs and kicked 2 goals. The Eagles gave up 3 scores to midfielders which were 112+ in Round 1, I can see this trending continuing. Josh Kelly enjoys playing the Eagles with his last 3 scores being 125, 102 and 139, could he be your man?
