The Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers squads were announced for Sunday’s game with Chris Lynn still not ruled out while there was an update on Will Sutherland’s fitness.
SQUAD NEWS
The Sydney Thunder named a 15-man squad for Sunday’s game against the Adelaide Strikers at Manuka Oval in Canberra, with Liam Doddrell and Will Salzmann dropping out.
The Sydney Thunder have the Round 9 double and retired Aussie Test star David Warner heaped praise on his lime teammate Ollie Davies. Warner said: “He’s got the eye. He’ll get into positions where he can score. His technique will take score of itself when he’s looking to score. When he’s looking to score, I think that’s when he’s at his best and he’s playing with freedom. Clean ball striker. I saw his prospects as pretty good.”
Thunder squad: Bancroft, Davies, Gilkes, Gray, Green (c), Hales, Hatcher, Kohler-Cadmore, McAndrew, Ross, Sams, Sandhu, J.Sangha, T.Sangha, Warner
The Strikers named an unchanged 16-man squad with Chris Lynn selected despite a hamstring concern which had all but ruled him out of the season.
Adelaide said in an update: “The Strikers coaching and medical staff are remaining open minded to the slim chance of Lynn returning, but testing needs to be done and progress needs to be made for him to be declared fit to play.”
Strikers squad: M.Short (c), Agar, Bazley, Boyce, Doggett, Hose, Kelly, Lynn, Manenti, Nielsen (wk), Overton, Payne, Pope, D.Short, Thornton, Weatherald
UPDATES
Will Sutherland didn’t bowl in Saturday night’s Melbourne Derby and he has been nursing an ankle problem according to retiring Renegades batsman Aaron Finch who said on the match coverage: “I think he’s got a little ankle issue that he had coming into the tournament.”
Scorchers batsman Nick Hobson spoke about his role after his Player of the Match display. He said: “I’m hoping to go a bit higher but that middle-order finisher role is one I’ve been preparing for. The coaching staff have been clear about that’s where I’m going to be.”
Brisbane Heat clarified the absences of Sam Billings and Colin Munro for their final game. The club said: “With the team having already qualified in top spot and Sam Billings and Colin Munro leaving the squad after this game, we thought it was a good opportunity to get Jimmy (Peirson) and Max (Bryant) some game time before finals.”
