The Adelaide Strikers named their squad for Friday’s game with the Perth Scorchers with a new addition, while Scott Boland was released to play BBL and the Gades made a new signing.
SQUAD NEWS
The Adelaide Strikers added spinner Lloyd Pope as a replacement player and directly into a 15-man squad to face the Perth Scorchers on Friday. No players went out.
Strikers squad: M.Short (c), Agar, Bazley, Boyce, Doggett, Hose, Kelly, Lynn, Manenti, Nielsen, Overton, Payne, Pope, D.Short, Thornton
Adelaide dropped Wes Agar, Ben Manenti and Brendan Doggett for Wednesday’s game and Strikers coach Jason Gillespie explained those calls on FoxCricket. He said: “Our bowling probably hasn’t been as good as we’d like it to be. We felt we’d look to try something different hence those changes. We didn’t think spin would play as big a role here, that’s why Ben Manenti dropped out. That gives an opportunity to Thomas Kelly.”
The Scorchers named a 14-man squad for the trip, with Sam Fanning, Cam Gannon, Liam Haskett and Matt Kelly dropping out.
Scorchers squad: Hardie (c), Agar, Behrendorff, Connolly, Crawley, Eskinazi, Evans, Hobson, Inglis, McKenzie, Morris, Richardson, Tye, Whiteman
NEW SIGNING
The Melbourne Renegades continued their recent signings spree with the addition of Netherlands international wicketkeeper-batsman Scott Edwards for the final two games of the BBL regular season, according to ESPN Cricinfo.
Edwards, who qualifies as Australian, has been signed as a replacement player with Quinton de Kock playing his final BBL13 game on Thursday before heading to the SA20 and Joe Clarke out for the season with a quad injury, limiting their wicketkeeper options.
UPDATES
The Melbourne Stars will be bolstered by fast bowler Scott Boland for Saturday’s clash with the Sydney Sixers at the MCG after being released from Australia’s third Test squad. Boland’s availability may impact Mark Steketee’s selection.
Sam Whiteman opened for Perth on Wednesday and the Scorchers bowling coach Tim Macdonald explained the move. He told FoxCricket: “He knows these faster surfaces really well. He’s a played at the WACA a lot and played here as well.
“Bit of a change the top. We know we’ll lose some of our internationals later in the tournament and we’re looking for options and to give some guys exposure at the top before then.”
