The Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars’ squads for Thursday’s game were revealed, while there were updates on Usama Mir, Haris Rauf and Zaman Khan’s BBL13 stints.
SQUAD NEWS
The Hobart Hurricanes named their entire 18-man squad for Thursday’s game against the Melbourne Stars at Blundstone Arena.
Naming an 18-man squad defeats the purpose of naming a playing squad and it also offers zero insight into their likely XI, although Honeyball understands Ben McDermott’s neck injury is only minor and he’s a strong chance to play.
Hurricanes squad: Ellis (c), Anderson, Carlisle, Chaudhary, David, Dooley, Guthrie, Hain, Hatzoglou, Heazlett, Jewell, Jordan, McDermott, Meredith, Owen, Stanlake, Wade, Wright
The Stars named a more streamlined and unchanged 14-man squad for the game, with the club confirming the fate of Pakistani duo Usama Mir and Haris Rauf.
The Stars update said: “The match will be the last for Usama Mir and Haris Rauf as they are released for national duties.”
Stars squad: Maxwell (c), Cartwright, Harper, Larkin, Merlo, Usama Mir, Paris, Haris Rauf, Rocchiccioli, Rogers, Steketee, Stoinis, Imad Wasim, Webster
UPDATES
Zaman Khan’s BBL13 stint is over after playing his final game for the Sydney Thunder on Wednesday before heading out on Pakistan duties, meaning he won’t play the second game of their double.
Honeyball enquired about the potential for the Pakistan Cricket Board to extend his stay before linking up with the national team for the five-game New Zealand T20Is but there was no truth to the speculation.
Alex Hales talked up Thunder teammate Daniel Sams after his 5fa on Wednesday. He said: “He’s one of the most hard-working players you can play with. As an all-rounder. He does all three dimensions really well, bats, bowls and fields really well. He’s an impressive athlete and a really big cog in our wheel. To see him perform in back-to back games is great for the team.”
