With less than a week until BBL|13 starts, we’ve got the latest updates from club cricket over the weekend, led by the returns from injury of Jack Edwards and Riley Meredith and Kurtis Patterson’s return to form plus some standouts displays by Hurricanes recruits.

BBL Practice game – Melbourne Stars def Melbourne Renegades by 5 runs
Stars bat Tom Rogers opened and made 72 from 38 balls with 10 fours, while Hilton Cartwright came in at 4 and added 46 from 29. Nic Maddinson sent down 3 overs, taking 2-33.
In reply, Mackenzie Harvey top scored with 63 from 34 balls including eight fours and one six, while Will Sutherland added 27 from 15. Nathan Coulter-Nile (2-35 from 4) and Brody Couch (2-45 from 4) impressed with the ball.

Queensland
Heat batsman Max Bryant added to his first innings century for Valley with 82 from 58 balls, including five fours and six sixes in the second dig. Valley teammate Cameron Boyce didn’t play the second day as he’s headed to Adelaide to join the Strikers for the BBL.
Xavier Bartlett got through another 13.5 overs on the second day of Gold Coast’s win over University of Queensland, taking the final wicket to finish with 2-64 from 19.5 overs.
Matt Renshaw was dismissed for a second ball duck for Toombul against Ipswich, for whom Heat recruit Jack Wood only bowled 3 overs (0-10). Hurricanes bowler Liam Guthrie took 4-40 for Wynnum-Manly.

NSW
Potential Sixers breakout star Jack Edwards returned from a heel injury for Manly Warringah, batting at 3 but made only 27 from 58 balls against Fairfield-Liverpool on Saturday. Curiously, Edwards didn’t bowl on the second day on Sunday.
Sixers bat Kurtis Patterson enjoyed a return to form with 82 from 172 balls for St George, while Thunder youngster Blake Nikitaras managed 34 from 61.
Thunder batsman Alex Ross scored 110 form 169 balls with nine fours and three sixes for Randwick-Petersham.
Sixers bat Daniel Hughes made 36* from 72 for Eastern Suburbs against Hawkesbury who were still missing veteran spinner Steve O’Keefe (finger).
Tasmania
New Hurricanes all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary produced a game-winning debut for Glenorchy, taking 2-32 from 10 overs before blasting 89* from 72 balls in a successful run chase against Lindisfarne in a one-day encounter.
Hurricanes bat Mac Wright also boosted his chances of a game with 145 from 121 at the top of the order for Lindisfarne.
Another Hurricanes recruit Sam Heazlett pushed his case for a BBL game with 126* from 92 balls on his debut for SHSB, while he took 1-27 from 10 overs. Billy Stanlake took 2-37 (6) in the same game for Raiders.
Hurricanes fast bowler Riley Meredith made his return from a side injury, bowling 10 overs and taking 2-48 with a maiden for Clarence as they lost to New Town. Meredith also made 17 off 16.
Rounding out Saturday’s one-day games, Iain Carlisle took 4-49 for North Hobart, while Paddy Dooley managed 1-34 from 10 overs for Uni of Tasmania.
In Sunday’s T20s, Paddy Dooley was tight with 1-22 from 4 overs as Uni of Tasmania won by 10 wickets over Raiders for whom Billy Stanlake had 0-18 from 4 overs with 1 maiden.
Mitch Owen smashed 71 from 34 balls batting at 3 for New Town, before taking 3-17 from 4 overs. Sam Heazlett made 64 from 40 and took 1-38 from 4 overs in the same game for SHSB.
Victoria
All games were washed out on Saturday.
WA
On the second day of WA Premier Cricket games, Cooper Connolly didn’t continue to bat on for Scarborough after his first day 51*, while Lance Morris (1-19) and Andrew Tye (1-55) both had trundles late in the day with the ball. Morris appears set to be called into the 14-man Test squad for the first Test against Pakistan which will be announced on Sunday, which is set to rule him out of BBL Round 1.
Scorchers bat Nick Hobson made 42 from 76 for Claremont-Nedlands batting at 5 and Strikers recruit D’Arcy Short (1-40) bowled another four overs with Willetton in the field.
SA
Unsigned spinner Lloyd Pope was the star with 4-20 (7) for Kensington while Strikers fast bowler Henry Thornton took 2-18 (8) in their one-day win over Port Adelaide.
