Richmond confirmed Tom Brown (AF $200k SC $123k DEF) and James Trezise (AF $200k SC $102k DEF) will both debut. Brown is a 193cm defender, who went pick 17 in the 2021 AFL Draft. Trezise is a rebounding 188cm defender and went pick 13 in the 2023 Mid-Season Draft.
Geelong revealed Ted Clohesy (AF $200k SC $102k MID) will debut as their sub. He is a South Africa-born 184cm midfielder who was picked up as a Category B rookie. He has averaged 16.5 disposals, 5.5 marks and 5.2 tackles in the VFL this year, kicking 13 goals in 18 games.
UPDATES
Toby Conway (AF $200k SC $123k RUC) was unveiled as a Geelong debutant on Thursday and Cats coach Chris Scott confirmed his role, coming up against Tim English, who’ll be a popular VC/C option. Scott said: “He’ll start in the ruck.
“He’s had an interrupted start to his career but we made a concerted effort to make sure he had a thorough preparation before he played and we were completely open to the possibility that that preparation might not have him in good enough shape to have him play by the end of the year but it was an investment we were prepared to make because we’re confident over the long term that he’ll be a really good player for us.
“But the fact is he worked really hard and got himself back playing in the VFL which was a win in itself but then was playing well enough.”
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge explained Bailey Smith’s absence. He said: “He’s just crook unfortunately. He had a tough night Wednesday night with a gastro type thing. We couldn’t consider him, he didn’t train yesterday.”
