The lead ruck roles for Max Gawn and Kieren Briggs appear set to hold for Round 24 following news out of the VFL, while Charlie Constable once again pressed his case for a recall after 41 disposals.
Brodie Grundy, dropped by Melbourne to the VFL for the second time to develop his forward craft, only had 12 disposals with one mark and no goals, while having 36 hit-outs.
Tom McDonald booted three goals up forward in his second game back from injury, so he’s likely someone Melbourne would turn to in the AFL to improve their attack.
Kieren Briggs’ role as GWS’ sole ruck looks unlikely to be impacted by Braydon Preuss who didn’t play in the VFL on the weekend. Preuss was due to play his second VFL game after injury, with coach Adam Kingsley previously indicating he’d be considered for AFL selection after that for Round 24.
Gold Coast will round out their season against North Melbourne, with Charlie Constable surely in contention for a game after 41 disposals in the VFL. He hasn’t played in the AFL since Round 2.
With St Kilda’s top-eight spot locked in, the Saints may turn to Jack Hayes to support Rowan Marshall after he booted six goals in the VFL. Hayes only had three hit-outs, playing primarily forward.
Jaxon Binns continues to push his case for a Carlton debut after 27 disposals in the VFL, although the are likely to get Sam Walsh and Adam Cerra back after injury. The Blues are locked in for a finals spot, so they could tinker with their side.
Richmond will have a few spots available next week after Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt’s retirements, with Sam Banks putting his hand up after 23 disposals and 11 marks.
Kai Lohmann put his hand up for a recall following Jack Gunston’s injury with two goals and 17 disposals for Brisbane.
From a Draft point of view, Will Setterfield (29 disposals and a goal) and Cam Guthrie (19 disposals) had decent games to earn recalls after injuries.
