Carlton’s Jaxon Binns and Essendon’s Elijah Tsatas were good again in the VFL to push their respective cases for AFL debuts, while Brayden Fiorini and Charlie Constable were impressive for Gold Coast.
Jaxon Binns had a game-high 34 disposals (22 kicks and 12 handballs) as the Blues won by 36 points over Port Melbourne in the VFL.
Binns has been close to an AFL debut and may get his chance with a string of injuries for the Blues from Saturday’s win over West Coast, although Patrick Cripps and Adam Cerra may return ahead of him.
Top-10 draft pick Elijah Tsatas may get his chance at Essendon after losing four of their past five games, with the rookie having 23 disposals and seven tackles.
He has consistently had 20+ possessions since his VFL debut a few months ago following a pre-season meniscus injury, with a lack of opportunity denying him an AFL chance.
Interim Gold Coast coach Steven King may make some changes after his side’s third loss from their past four games, with Brayden Fiorini and Charlie Constable doing their chances of a crack no harm.
Fiorini responded to his recent omission with 45 disposals, including eight clearances and a game-high 11 inside 50s. Constable had 39 disposals, playing more advanced with seven inside 50s.
Brodie Grundy only managed one goal from 12 disposals for Casey Demons in the VFL, meaning Max Gawn’s sole ruck role in the AFL will likely be unchallenged for the time being.
