Updates have dropped over the past 24 hours on Darcy Cameron, Sean Darcy, Hayden Young and Luke Jackson, while more press conferences are due to come on Wednesday.
Collingwood put out their weekly injury report, indicating Darcy Cameron is in contention to return from a back issue this round.
The Pies update said: “Cameron will be assessed ahead of the clash against Port Adelaide. “He completed a solid running session on last weekend after missing Round 18. He trained early this week with the squad and he is expected to complete full training later this week and hopefully be available for selection this weekend. He’ll be assessed later in the week.”
Fremantle have ruled out ruckman Sean Darcy for their next two games at least due to an ankle injury although they’re yet to provide a clear timeline. Dockers coach Justin Longmuir had no update on Wednesday morning, having told 7NewsPerth on Tuesday night:
“We’re still working through (a timeframe) with the specialists but he’ll miss the short term. “We won’t see him this week or next week, but we’re hopeful he can play some (more) footy this season. We have to work a bit out behind the scenes.”
Longmuir confirmed Caleb Serong will return from suspension and revealed on Wednesday that Hayden Young was tracking well to return from an ankle issue. He said: “Freddy (Michael Frederick) and Youngy are a good chance. They’ve got to do a little bit at training today.”
With Darcy out, Longmuir indicated Luke Jackson would likely take on the main ruck duties although he noted his previous hip issue arose from being no.1 ruck. He said: “Some of the concerns were caused off the back of his spike in ruck loads. He went from second ruck, playing mostly forward to all of ruck, so there was a big jump. This time hopefully he’s used to it and his body is up to it. We think he should be right.”
GWS coach Adam Kingsley said Finn Callaghan “looks like he’ll play” after a minor hip flexor problem, while he said “Tom Green won’t be back. He’ll probably miss another maybe two.”
Braydon Preuss was back at training following long-term injury in a potential ruck threat to Kieren Briggs’ role. Kingsley said: “We feel like he can add value towards the end of the season. When that is, we’re not sure. We’ll try push him as hard as we can and get him back playing.”
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon confirmed Jack Higgins will return from injury which may impact Jack Peris‘ job security, while Jack Billings was likely to return after a thumb issue. Lyon said they’d look at Jack Hayes to solve their forward issues, while Zaine Cordy was unlikely after concussion.
Geelong coach Chris Scott said they had no injury issues from last week’s side with Zach Tuohy and Esava Ratugolea fit and available to return after being managed, which may impact Oisin Mullin’s selection.
On Cam Guthrie who has been out long term with a toe injury, Scott said: “He looks like he’s making really good progress to me. I did get an update very recently in the last couple of days, I’m not sure whether they’re being conservative or not because they’re saying it’s still the same plan, that he’ll likely be available towards the end of the home and away season but he’s making very good progress to my eye.”
North Melbourne interim coach Brett Ratten confirmed Jy Simpkin will miss again due to concussion, while he said Will Phillips was in contention to return after good VFL form.
Ratten noted Todd Goldstein was in the mix to partner Tristan Xerri in the ruck, with Callum Coleman-Jones out with concussion. He said: “Maybe, that’s part of the chat today around match committee.”
West Coast confirmed Reuben Ginbey will miss this weekend’s game with a hamstring injury although they’re yet to confirm a timeline, while Jeremy McGovern is out with delayed onset concussion.
There was an update on Elliot Yeo (hip). Eagles head of health Mark Finucane said: “Elliot continues to build through the late stages of his hip injury and just needs to get another week of training under his belt and hopefully pulls up well from that and possibly we’ll see him out there next week.”
