The bye rounds are finally over and Round 15 delivered loads of monster scores despite the challenge it presented with numerous top premos out of action. Jordan Dawson topped the scores for the round on Sunday.
Risk it for the biscuit
With all the rumours surrounding Clayton Oliver this weekm it was his mate Petracca (125) who got it done again. Owners will be hoping Clarry spends as much time on the sideline as possible. With Geelong down at the Cattery for a number of games now, could it be a time to take a risk on Mitch Duncan (120)? We know he is an elite scorer when at his best and it looks like at home they will play that style he loves. You would have to be brave, but could be a nice POD.
Premiums burn, rookies flop
If you jumped on Brad Crouch (116) or Jack Sinclair (130) in the last couple of weeks you would be mighty happy. Chuck in Junkley (120), Marshall (105) and the return to form of Jack Steele (104) and you would think there would be many coaches cheering. Cue their counterparts in Dev Rob (33) and Marcus Windhager (42). The former was particularly frustrating as he went from their most CBAs last week, to barely seeing the action. Just more proof that chasing value can get you in trouble and we should always be looking to get those premiums in and those cheap guys out.
Target West Coast
As if things could get any worse for West Coast… As mentioned last week though, they present a tantalising match up to find a good C/VC and it was the Gulden Boy (145) who delivered in this one. Look for the players with big ceilings against these guys every week! Although there was a feast of other scores, it is hard to go past the little piglet in Angus Sheldrick (111). Exactly what we want from a rookie in the byes, this kid is going to be a fantasy stud once some of his elder teammates move on.
Toss of a coin – Ryan v Young
I saw a lot of coaches over the byes mulling over the choice between Hayden Young (63) and Luke Ryan (143) with many going the former. Personally I thought this was the right call, but man oh man when Ryan goes he goes big. Other premos definitely stood up in this one and the nervous Ben Hobbs (105) coaches would have breathed a massive sigh of relief. Coming out of the byes, Nic Martin (112) almost looks a must have up forward with his elite form continuing throughout.
Holy Dawson
A guy who has a great kick to handball ratio, marks the ball and tackles, enter Jordan Dawson (172). This was one for the ages as the Crows captain did it all to almost get his team over the line. Dawson and Laird (111) would have been popular upgrade targets this week and if you jumped on, it was a serious instant reward. Ben Keays (90) continued to be a nice value pick, while anyone who has got on Titch (109) or D Cam (106) would also be very happy.
Goodbye… planning
There were a number of coaches who loaded up on Suns players in preparation for the byes and although the Rat (31) found his way to the vest, Brayden Fiorini (115), Will Powell (100) and Darcy McPherson (97) did exactly what you wanted from them. Unfortunately popular rookie Bailey Humphrey (36) did not and it is time to cash him in. Could a sneaky play be to go to his teammate in Sam Flanders (94)? In his first game back after some blistering VFL form, Flanders looked great and scored accordingly. Another awkwardly priced one, but will present value if he keeps that up.
Well, the byes are finally over with and we get the chance to put our team back together and see all the damage we did. Hopefully you managed to get your rank going in the right direction and have filled your team with premos. If not, get those rookies off field ASAP and make sure you check the draw for the rest of the year.
