Suspensions and challenges were the hot topic on Monday with Rory Laird the latest in hot water, while James Sicily and Hawthorn accepted his one-game ban, plus Clayton Oliver and Sean Darcy’s injury news landed.
UPDATES
Firstly, though, Melbourne offered an update on Clayton Oliver’s (AF $990k SC $658k MID) hamstring injury although remain coy on a timeline.
Demons club doctor Laura Lallanec said: “Clayton is going really well. As everyone would be well aware, he is a very diligent individual. So, he’s been ticking every box and doing everything he possibly can to get this hamstring right.
“Thankfully he’s been going really well in rehab…at this stage we’re looking to get him integrated into some training this week, which is a step in the right direction.”
Rory Laird (AF $957k SC 603k MID) has been offered a one-game suspension for rough conduct after a third quarter tackle on Lachie Neale. The offence was graded as careless conduct, medium impact, high contact. Adelaide are yet to declare if they’ll challenge it.
Dayne Zorko was also offered a one-game ban by the Match Review Officer for contact to the eye region in an incident with Luke Pedlar.
Hawthorn confirmed it would accept the one-game ban offered to James Sicily (AF $878k SC $608k DEF) for his bump on Anthony Caminti, meaning he’ll miss Round 12. The Hawks also have the Round 14 bye.
Carlton, however, have opted to challenge the one-game ban handed to Adam Cerra for rough conduct from a tackle.
Fremantle confirmed a “moderate grade hamstring strain” for Sean Darcy (AF $789k SC $567k RUC) although they declined to put a timeline on his return. The club said: “A timeframe for Darcy’s return will be finalised as he progresses through his reconditioning.”
Adam Treloar is listed as a test to return for the Western Bulldogs this weekend following a hamstring injury. Dogs Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said: “He still has one or two boxes to tick before we can confirm his availability, but at this stage he is on track to return to play this weekend.”
