It’s a slightly tougher week than usual to pick our VC and C options this round, as Clayton Oliver and Josh Kelly have gone down with hamstring injuries, there’s a slight flag over Tim Taranto with a new coach.
Plus there are tough matchups for Nick Daicos and Andy Brayshaw, who are at the risk of copping tags. Read below to see who I think are the top VC/C AFL Fantasy options for Round 11.
VC Options
Errol Gulden
- Got to 106 last week whilst copping a tag, albeit only a slight run-with.
- Three-round rolling average of 140 and five-round rolling average of 121.2.
- One of the best ceilings in the game.
Sam Docherty
- Three-round rolling average of 121.7.
- 124 and 129 in the last three weeks against tough matchups in Collingwood and Brisbane.
Jack Steele
- Back to form last week with a 121.
- Has one of the easiest match-ups for midfielders this season in Hawthorn.
- 130 and 107 in his last two games against the Hawks.
Sam Walsh
- Averaging 116 for the season.
- Simpkin (115) and Sheezel (112) both scored well against a depleted Swans team in midfield roles last week.
Captain Options
- Zach Merrett
Fresh off a monstrous 158, Merrett meets a West Coast side that has allowed some huge scores to be pumped out against them this year. Xavier O’Neill has been dropped, meaning if anyone is going to tag Merrett it will have to be a tired and battered Reuben Ginbey. His last two scores against the Eagles have been 118 and 132. Darcy Parish is still out. Everything points to another ridiculous game coming from Merrett this week. Lock and load.
- Rory Laird
Six tons in a row, 131 last week, Rory is back. Does have a somewhat tough matchup against the Lions this week, however in the last month Laird has scored 107 against Geelong and 110 against the Pies, who are far tougher. No reason not to be confident in Laird now he is back in form.
- Tim English
Still the highest averaging player in the game. Scored 121 last week, in a game where Reilly O’Brien dominated him in the hit-outs to have 63. Witts is a similarly hit-out dominant ruckman, who English will burn around the ground. Has a 50% strike rate of scoring 120+ this season, English is a safe option with a massive ceiling.
- Tom Green
Although he has a tough matchup this week against Geelong, I believe Green will be huge. Playing at GMHBA, a small ground should be in Green’s favour, as he is a contested ball beast and there will be plenty there to be won against an unexperienced Geelong midfield. No Dangerfield, Guthrie, Holmes or Menegola lining up for the Cats means they will have to rely on the likes of Atkins, Parfitt and Bruhn to go head-to-head against Green this week. Josh Kelly out also means GWS will rely on him even more to carry the load this week, lock him in for 100+ again.
- Rowan Marshall
The Hawks have been a rather tough side for rucks to score against this season, even keeping English to his first sub-100 score for the year in Round 7. However, Bailey Williams managed to crack a ton against them last week for the Eagles, and we know Marshall loves playing under the roof at Marvel. Scored 110 and 116 in his last 2, and if you take a look back to his last game against the Hawks, you’ll see a huge 163 next to Marshall’s name. Only 2 scores under 100 for the year, the big man should be fine again this week.
