There was good news on Monday for Zak Butters’ owners, while Melbourne confirmed it would take Jacob van Rooyen’s striking charge to the Tribunal. Plus some injury updates too.
UPDATES
Zak Butters (AF $748k SC $540k M/F) looks like he’s got the all-clear for Round 9, having not been named on Port Adelaide’s injury list. Port’s update said: “Butters suffered a corky in the final term, but was able to return to the ground for some valuable minutes late in the game.”
Melbourne confirmed they will challenge the two-ban handed to Jacob van Rooyen (AF $344k SC $247k FWD) for striking Charlie Ballard.
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir spoke on AFL360 about Andy Brayshaw’s (AF $917k SC $531k MID) return to form. He said: “He’s taken a little bit of time to get himself into the season. Probably been a little bit more inconsistent than last year. That knee injury has probably just been a bit of a distraction rather than a hindrance. I was really proud of the way he bounced back on the weekend. His work rate was back to his elite level, he had an impact on the game.”
GWS coach Adam Kingsley indicated Toby Greene (AF $741k SC $486k FWD) is likely to return from an ankle injury in Round 9. He told AFL360: “I expect him to. He’ll train later on in the week with a view to play. But I would expect he will (play).”
Geelong revealed Patrick Dangerfield (AF $763K SC $578k MID) had suffered a “low grade left hamstring strain” which Cats Footy GM Simon Lloyd said will sideline him “for the next few weeks”.
Richmond’s ruck situation has been a fascination for the impact on Samson Ryan (AF $404k SC $303k F/R), with Tigers Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan offering updates on Ivan Soldo (AF $444k SC $297k F/R) and Toby Nankervis (AF $864k SC $563k RUC).
On Soldo, Meehan said: “Ivan’s dealing with a pretty tricky foot problem. He’s a test for later this week. We’re hoping things progress really well, and if he gets through some work later in the week, he’ll be available. But, we’ll have to see where it’s at.”
On Nankervis, Meehan said: “Toby’s going really well which is great. He’s working really hard, as everyone would expect. We’re hoping to get him involved in a little bit of football this week, and all things being good, available next week possibly, but definitely the week after.”
Rookie defender Tylar Young (AF $268k SC $217k DEF) was listed as a “test” from a leg injury which kept him out of Round 8.
