The Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder squads were named for Saturday’s Sydney Smash with talk about spinners, while Andrew Tye discussed the idea of a final-game rest.
TEAM NEWS
The Sydney Sixers named an extended and unchanged 17-man squad to face the Sydney Thunder at the SCG on Saturday on a pitch likely to favour the spinners.
The Thunder added Gurinder Sandhu ($134k BWL) and spinner Toby Gray ($42k BWL) to their 17-man squad. Sandhu returns after missing several games with injury.
There’s some talk this is David Warner’s ($140k BAT) final BBL|12 game, although we’ve not confirmed that. He may take a break before the Test squad for the India series gets together around January 29-30.
Sixers: Abbott, Bird, Christian, Dwarshuis, J.Edwards, M.Edwards, Henriques, Hughes, Kerr, Lyon, Murphy, Naveed, O’Keefe, Patterson, Philippe, Silk, Smith
Thunder: Cutting, J. Davies, O. Davies, Doggett, Gilkes, Gray, Green (c), Holt, McAndrew, Pawson, Usman Qadir, Ross, Sams, Sandhu, Warner, Whiteman
UPDATES
Andrew Tye ($184k BWL) offered some reassurance to his SuperCoach owners sweating on a final game rest in Round 12. He told FoxCricket prior to Friday’s game: “I can rest when I retire. No need for me to take a rest… The coach asks me every game, but I say no straight away.”
