Ok, I’m going to play a straight bat here. I’ve been a little quiet recently. The reason? Well, my team, Scud’s Duds, have lived up to their name and fallen off a cliff after a disastrous Round 8 thanks to an over-investment in Sixers bowlers (I’m death-staring you Hayden Kerr and Chris Jordan).
Dropping a mammoth 433 spots left me down in the dumps for a couple of days, but I’m back on the saddle and ready to redeem myself. Dreams of repeating a top 50 finish might realistically have evaporated as I’m now back in 928th, but it did give me cause for contemplation.
Why do we do this? Of course, we would all want to claim the coveted green tracksuit and, more importantly, the $25k, but with just under a touch under 59,000 particpants, you’d have more chance of seeing Cooper Connolly open the bowling for Perth.
Assuming you aren’t a computer, you most likely got involved in BBL SuperCoach because of your love of the game. And by ‘game’ I mean the sport itself!
When I submitted my first BBL SuperCoach team two years ago, I selected a team made up almost exclusively of Brisbane Heat players. This was my first foray into any kind of fantasy sports. Clearly I had no idea, but it was borne from my desire to see the Heat do well….also a dream that has since gone by the wayside.
So with my hopes seemingly dashed, do I pack up my bat and ball and go home? Of course not! Time to bring back the fun! To do this, I’m going to reintroduce one player into my team who has, in my opinion, proven to be the most enjoyable to watch in BBL12. After all, we need to enjoy watching games, right?! I’m talking, or course, about the one and only Josh Brown!
This bat-making, bat-wielding beast, will also fit the bill of being a decent emergency loop option for the next two single game rounds as he plays in the first game each time.
Furthermore, he then has a double in Round 12. He has the potential to go bananas during this round, as he faces the underwhelming ‘Canes and Stars. He is also still at a low price of around $95k, a hefty advance on his $42k starting price, but a great downgrade if you are targeting a premium elsewhere.
I’ll likely be looking to omit my ailing Stars players this week. As I write this Matt Short has taken Luke Wood for 20 off the opening over of their contest so I can’t wait to take the wood to him and replace him with Brown. I’ve managed to hold on to most of the popular guns (Matt Short, Abbott, Kerr, Sams, Tye, ‘Dorff, Inglis, Hardie, McDermott) and I plan to use my remaining trades to build around these weapons.
I would also recommend considering Thunder players in the run home for the same reason I previously endorsed Baxter Holt as a WKT-BAT loop. Thunder generally play late in the remaining rounds so they are excellent options to loop on to your field if one of your early game guns fails.
Names to consider would be Ollie Davies and David Warner. The latter is expensive but his price may be a deterrent for many, making him a potential POD for your team. Sams is another, but you don’t need me to tell you that. He is BBL SuperCoach royalty.
Enjoy watching the games, ladies and gentlemen. Remember why we do this – for the love of the game! Have fun!
