What a weird few rounds it has been. All the guns misfiring, and the game starting to shift towards batsmen once again. Plus, we’ve got the Test stars coming back too. So this trade guide is gonna be interesting.
Firstly, the doubles for Round 9 are the Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Stirkers, which the Sydney Sixers – who just had a double – are on the bye, so they’re prime to be traded out, along with those who’ve exited for the ILT20 and SA-20 (get a full rundown here).
Also if any doubt on a player’s availability, check out our exclusive BBL injury list here.
Travis Head ($125k BAT/BWL)
The Strikers look like they’re gonna run with two Matt Shorts, because Travis Head is bowling, and Matt Short will keep bowling. Plus he’s on the double, and in his favour of playing, is that they have an extra day between the end of the Test and their first game. He’s such good value but monitor his availability for the January 10 as that’s the key. If he’s in, lock and load.
Beau Webster ($135k BAT/BWL)
“Slug” as he’s affectionately known is set to have a great role, likely bowling four overs and batting at 4 with Marcus Stoinis out for Monday’s game and probably a few more. Webster will take basically the role we tipped for Stoin in the pre-season. Very affordable too. I’m locking him in.
Lance Morris ($68k BWL)
Morris was expensive early on against the Brisbane Heat, but used his slower balls effectively and got wickets. Expect Peter Hatzoglou to play both games of the double, but Morris is Perth’s new toy and mostly fresh so others may get a rest. He will be a very popular buy. Low breakeven for a double too.
Chris Lynn ($168k BAT)
Despite all the players exiting for the ILT20, don’t worry Lynny is here until their January 14 game (Round 10). He has bounced back after a couple of quiet years, and at $168k, many will stay away. I say that he could do a lot of damage on a double, and I would be death-riding him hard if I didn’t own, something I’m not a fan of doing that.
Andrew Tye ($190k BWL)
The highest floor of any pure bowler, he hasn’t scored below 38 in a single game this season. He’s a superb pick for the double and one I’m a big fan of. Probably not one who’ll be rested. I think he’s a must buy.
Marnus Labuschagne ($204k BAT/BWL)
Marnus is a certified SC star, usually he would bowl close to four overs and bat in the top 3, and with the way the Heat lined up last game, it wouldn’t surprise me to see James Bazley brought back in for Mitch Swepson and Marnus to take over as second spinner. Also it’s Marnus so you know he’ll play. He’s not playing the double and he’s very expensive but he’s one I really want still.
Good luck coaches!
