RENEGADES-STARS PRACTICE GAME
A lot of the SuperCoach interest in this game at Junction Oval centered around the Stars, given they have a Round 1 double, so we’ll focus on them.
Marcus Stoinis ($83k BAT/BWL) didn’t open and was relegated to batting 5, coming in at the end of the seventh over, scoring 62 off 26 balls in a boundary-laden knock, that included six sixes and four fours. Stoinis also bowled three overs, taking 0-26, reinforcing he has an excellent SuperCoach.
Joe Clarke ($153k BAT/WKP) and incoming new signing Tom Rogers (not the Gades bowler) opened the batting, with Clarke scoring 41 off 21 balls which makes him attractive for Round 1. The Stars will confirm Rogers’ signing on Saturday as Glenn Maxwell’s replacement in the squad.
Nick Larkin ($62k BAT) and Beau Webster ($62k BAT) came in at 3 and 4, with Larkin unable to find the boundary much in his 28 from 26 deliveries. Webster failed, making 1 off 4 and only bowled one over which was a major role concern, but the Stars did use eight bowlers, so it’s hard to know their plans.
Hilton Cartwright ($122k BAT) came in at 6 after Stoinis and whacked 33 from 13 balls. Joe Burns ($62k BAT) didn’t play. He did have groin tightness last month although it’s unclear if his absence was related to that.
Renegades bowler Tom Rogers ($163k BWL) led the wickets with 3-50 from four overs, while overseas replacement spinner Ruwantha Kellapotha ($42k BAT/BWL) took 2-30 from four overs including Stoinis’ wicket.
Popular cheapie Will Sutherland ($62k BAT/BWL) opened the bowling but only bowled two overs and finished with 0-27. He didn’t bat.
Sam Harper ($100k WKP/BAT) and Nic Maddinson ($138k BWL) opened for the Gades, with Harper smashing 30 off 11 balls including three sixes, before Aaron Finch ($139k BAT) and Jonathon Wells ($125k BAT) took over, with 79* from 46 and 102* from 53 balls respectively.
Stars English import Luke Wood ($105k BWL) opened the bowling and took 1-23 from three overs, while Trent Boult ($180k BWL) didn’t play having only arrived in Australia recently. Nathan Coulter-Nile ($103k BWL) got through two overs, taking 0-17.
