With three rounds to go and head-to-head league finals in full swing, it’s wise to look ahead of the upcoming fixtures to help guide trading and captain/vice-captain decisions. Your focus is now very short term.
So analysing which sides tend to concede the most or least points and who’s playing them in the final three rounds is very useful. It shouldn’t dictate decisions, but it should be considered, especially around 50-50 calls.
Of course, looking across the data from all previous 20 rounds can misleading as sides improve or their form fluctuates, so to combat this we’ve crunched the data for the whole season, plus the last four rounds, to offer some form.
For example, Essendon have become much tougher to score against recently, while Adelaide and GWS have conceded some big scores lately (that data can be skewed by the quality of the opponent). The tables below include average scores conceded, across the full season and the past four rounds.
With that in mind some of the sides with the best runs are Fremantle, Geelong and Sydney, while the toughest go to St Kilda and the Bulldogs, while Richmond‘s is mixed. There’s more detail on every club below.
