HB: Who are the top Round 13 trade-in targets off the Round 12 bye and why?

Someone who Teakles my fancy this week is mid-season draftee Brynn Teakle from Port. Coming in at the basement price of $102k, Teakle was the gift we were waiting for from the SuperCoach gods! I’m almost 99% certain he won’t play, but his DPP flexibility is crucial if you have Tim English in your forward line. If you need a basement price player, he is your best bet.
A premium I’m looking at coming off the Round 12 bye is Josh Kelly. He will set you back $619k having risen $37k from his start price, and with three-round and five-round averages of 137.3 and 130 respectively, he is hard to ignore. His two scores post Leon Cameron’s departure netted a 125 and 131. If you’re looking for a point of difference over Sam Walsh, Zach Merrett and Darcy Parish this week, he could be your guy. An ownership of 9% with a tantalizing matchup of North Melbourne this week has me licking my lips.

For owners looking for their last defensive upgrade like myself, I am eyeing Jack Sinclair (SC $562k D/M, BE 54) – although the Saints do play current top eight sides in four of their next five games, Sinclair at his price provides the perfect upgrade target, having had his bye in Round 12, and with only two sub-tons so far this season, will be entering my side this week.
For teams looking for a cheaper alternative in defence, Sam Docherty appears to be value for a proven defender averaging 110 this season (SC $531k DEF, BE 128). Even with a breakeven higher than his average, Docherty scored 185 in his second most recent matchup against the Bombers, and as Carlton’s main avenue out of defence along with Adam Saad, is an optimal pick again coming off his bye who is primed for a big end to this season. As an owner of Docherty, not only is he a SuperCoach top six defence option come season’s end, but he is also a player that you just love to watch and support.

My main upgrade target this week is Jack Sinclair in defence. The gun Saint has had a breakout campaign, where he has scored over 100 in 81% of games played. He is ranked fourth for defenders by average this season and I don’t expect Jack Steele’s inclusion later in the year to have much of an effect on Sinclair’s scoring. With a three-round average of 128 and a breakeven of 54, now is a great time to jump on board.
In terms of rookie options this week, I think Mitchito Owens is the pick of the bunch. His second AFL match was far better than his first and if he continues to perform like he did against North Melbourne he will continue to see match time. If you are looking for a midfield upgrade, perhaps consider an Essendon midfielder in Darcy Parish or Zach Merrett.
