Role plays a big part in determining a player’s AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach scoring potential. In this weekly subscriber-only column, we reflect on the past round’s CBAs, kick-ins and TOG% for an insight.
Often these stats will glean insights into role changes, explain scoring spikes or drop-offs or beneficiaries from injuries or absences. It all points to our subscriber-only game-by-game CBAs and kick-ins stats sections too.
West Coast v Richmond
CBAs: Luke Strnadica took 24 of the 37 CBAs for West Coast in Nic Naitanui and Bailey Williams’ absence, with Hugh Dixon chipping in with 13. Debutant Greg Clark had three CBAs but also played on the wing at times.
Jayden Short was moved into Richmond’s midfield with Thomson Dow and Trent Cotchin out, having 23 of 37 CBAs leading to his big score of 123/152 (AF/SC).
Kick-ins: Shannon Hurn dominated kick-ins for West Coast but only played on three out of nine times. Short’s move into the midfield meant Richmond shared the kick-in duties, with Nick Vlastuin (4/3) getting the most.
TOG%: Andrew Gaff’s (46%) price will drop after being used as the medi-sub at half-time.
Geelong v Fremantle
CBAs: Mitch Duncan had 14 CBAs, meaning he’s had 29 over the past two games, having only had six prior to that, but it’s worth noting Patrick Dangerfield’s absence and the early injury to Max Holmes.
Ruckman Lloyd Meek (21) absorbed Sean Darcy’s CBAs as expected, otherwise it was standard for Freo.
Kick-ins: Zach Tuohy (4/3) and Tom Stewart (3/2) mainly led kick-ins for Geelong, with the latter scoring 157/187. Luke Ryan (5/1) bossed Freo’s kick-ins but didn’t play on much.
TOG%: Cats second-gamer Oliver Dempsey (59%) had minimal impact and low TOG. Nathan O’Driscoll and Will Brodie (both 64%) were Freo’s lowest.

Adelaide v GWS Giants
CBAs: Josh Rachele had eight CBAs after going three rounds without any, although that didn’t result in any spike in his score of 43/46.
Stephen Coniglio only had one CBA for the game, meaning he’s had 13 CBAs across the past five games. Lachie Ash had 23 CBAs which was a major spike after none in the previous two games. Braydon Preuss (18) continues to get approximately 60% with Matt Flynn (11) in the side.
Kick-ins: Jordan Dawson (6/4) had the majority of Adelaide’s 11 kick-ins for the game. Lachie Whitfield didn’t take any kick-ins for the second straight were with Isaac Cumming taking four of GWS’s five.
TOG%: Matt Crouch (68%) continues to have low TOG but is still scoring OK with 89/86.
Melbourne v Hawthorn
CBAs: Luke Jackson had no impact on Max Gawn (20), who still had 71% of CBAs but scored a massive 149/172. Jack Viney (22) returned to take up his usual portion of CBAs, with Luke Dunstan (13) staying in the side having no impact on Christian Petracca (24) or Clayton Oliver (24).
Debutant Jackson Callow had six CBAs, while Tom Mitchell (15 of 28) continues to go at around 50% of CBAs.
Kick-ins: Steven May (13/13) dominated kick-ins again.
TOG%: Max Gawn (89%) had high TOG despite Jackson’s absence, with Sam Weideman chopping out in the ruck, allowing him to drift forward. Rookies Callow (63%) and Connor Macdonald (62%) had low TOG for the Hawks.

St Kilda v Port Adelaide
CBAs: In a game with only 13 CBAs, Jack Steele attended 12 along with Paddy Ryder in Rowan Marshall’s absence. Jack Sinclair had no CBAs for the fourth straight week, scoring 80/85.
Connor Rozee (9) and Zak Butters (9) both had a good portion of the CBAs, with Travis Boak (3) squeezed out. There were so few CBAs, though, that this didn’t affect much.
Kick-ins: Sinclair (3/2) had three of St Kilda’s 13 kick-ins which were shared around. Dan Houston (1/1) barely had a look-in with kick-ins bossed by Riley Bonner (8/8) and Ryan Burton (7/5).
TOG%: Marcus Windhager (70%) and Zak Butters (70%) both had low-ish TOG.
Carlton v North Melbourne
CBAs: The returning Matthew Kennedy (20) absorbed the CBAs in George Hewett’s absence. Debutant Jack Carroll had two CBAs.
Jason Horne-Francis (13) was just under 50% CBAs for North, with Callum Coleman-Jones (13) coming in as second ruck and Todd Goldstein (18) leading the line in Tristan Xerri’s absence.
Kick-ins: With Zac Williams out, Sam Docherty (2/2) had the most kick-ins for Carlton who only had four for the game. Luke McDonald (4/4) took the most kick-ins for North with Aaron Hall and Aidan Corr both out.
TOG%: Patrick Cripps showed no signs of injury by playing 84% game-time. Jason Horne-Francis (68%) and Carroll (68%) were both fairly low for TOG.

Collingwood v Gold Coast
CBAs: Darcy Cameron (19) and Aiden Begg (16) weren’t far off splitting ruck duties in Brodie Grundy’s absence. Jordan De Goey’s (21) dipped down approximately 25% following midweek gastro, with Tyler Brown (15) coming in to get his share.
Gold Coast’s midfield set-up was fairly normal, although David Swallow (0) dropped out after attending 26 CBAs when tagging Lachie Neale in Round 6. Noah Anderson’s (33) CBAs subsequently went back up, scoring nicely at 113/133.
Kick-ins: Lachie Weller (6/6) led the Suns’ kick-ins with Wil Powell out injured.
TOG%: Despite his low CBAs, De Goey still had 95% TOG up forward. Begg (55%) was nursed through the game.
Western Bulldogs v Essendon
CBAs: Jackson Macrae (18) and Marcus Bontempelli’s (22) share surged up, particularly the latter after stints forward. Josh Dunkley (7) was down but that didn’t impact his scoring at 133/139.
Dylan Shiel (16) was dropped but got a reprieve as the medi-sub, with lower CBA numbers, meaning slight rises for Jake Stringer (10) and Jye Caldwell (16). Ben Hobbs only had one CBA.
Kick-ins: Bailey Dale (7/7) and Caleb Daniel (4/4) took all of the Dogs’ kick-ins. Since Round 1, Dale has played on every time he’s taken a kick-in. Essendon shared around the duties led by Jordan Ridley (2/2) and Dyson Heppell (2/2).
TOG%: With less CBAs, Dunkley was at 87% TOG. Hobbs also had 86%.

Sydney v Brisbane Lions
CBAs: Luke Parker had high numbers again, attending 24 of 33 CBAs, which was the highest of any of Sydney’s mids.
Lachie Neale (27) didn’t miss many in his big score of 142/187. Jarrod Berry had no CBAs for the second game running, while Dayne Zorko had a season-high 11 CBAs, having previously had four all season, and subsequently scored 105/120.
Kick-ins: Jake Lloyd (6/6) had six of Sydney’s 11 kick-ins, while Daniel Rich (8/8) had the bulk of Brisbane’s 12, although Keidean Coleman (1/1) got one.
TOG%: Coleman was nursed back during his second game with 64% TOG. Lachie Neale was among the highest at 90%.
