BBL News This Week: BBL repercussions for Patto’s retirement, England’s T20I/BBL clash, Brook ruled out
James Pattinson’s international cricket threw a spanner in the works with BBL repercussions with national team selections, while England announced a tour which may see players exit BBL|11 prematurely.

James Pattinson ($157k BWL) has suddenly become available to the Melbourne Rnegades for the whole BBL|11 season after retiring from international cricket, although he is currently battling a knee issue.
On Pattinson’s injury, Victoria coach Chris Rogers said: “He’s had a knee injury. He’s not bowled at the intensity he would like. I don’t think he’s even got to 80% with his loads & intensity… We hope he’ll play the second one (Shield game on November 5).”
Pattinson’s decision to not be available for the Ashes may impact the BBL availability of the likes of Michael Neser ($127k BAT/BWL), Mark Steketee ($153k BWL), Sean Abbott ($169k BWL), Jackson Bird ($97k BWL) and Jhye Richardson ($201k BWL) who are fighting for spots in that squad. Pattinson looked certain to be in the squad, thus his retirement opens up a spot for another BBL option.
Players who get selected in the Ashes squad will miss most of the BBL season, while Australia A reps will likely miss the first three rounds, with a tour match on December 9-12.
Mark Steketee ($153k BWL) took a first innings 7fa to complete a 10-wicket haul for the game in Queensland’s Sheffield Shield draw with SA. He said after the game: “The Australian bowling stocks are unbelievable at the moment… It’s not really on my mind. I’m here to play cricket for Queensland.”

INJURIES
Jhye Richardson ($201k BWL) couldn’t play the second day of WA’s Sheffield Shield game after a back spasm but recovered to bat and bowl later in the game and appears fine.
“It can be anything,” Richardson said when asked about what set off the spasm. “Unfortunately with back spasms there’s no magical cure. No one knows what brings them on… Definitely (play next game).”
INTERNATIONAL CALL-UPS
Hurricanes import Harry Brook ($125k BAT) has been made a late addition to the English Lions squad for their Australia tour which includes a tour match against Australia from December 9-12. As a result, he will miss the Hurricanes’ first few games.
The West Indies and England Cricket Boards confirmed a five-game T20I series to be played in Barbados, starting January 22 which will impact the BBL, with the regular season due to finish January 19.
Players would likely fly out well in advance of the first T20I on January 22, which may impact Tom Curran ($201k BAT/BWL), Sam Billings ($136k BAT/WKP), Saqib Mahmood ($125k BWL), James Vince ($153k BAT), Ben Duckett ($125k WKP/BAT), George Garton ($125k BAT/BWL), Jason Roy*, Liam Livingstone* and Nicholas Pooran*.

FORM GUIDE
In the T20 World Cup games, Marcus Stoinis ($163k BAT/BWL) returned to bowling with two overs going for 0-16, while he made 41* from 25 balls with the bat against India on Wednesday. Glenn Maxwell ($195k BAT/BWL) continued his productive batting form with 37 from 28 in the same game. Kane Richardson ($152k BWL) took a 3fa in the first-up win over New Zealand.
In the Shield, Usman Khawaja ($93k BAT) and Jimmy Peirson ($89k WKP/BAT) put up their names in lights with centuries. Peter Siddle ($149k BWL) a 5fa for Tasmania against WA.
