There were no surprises for Saturday’s Scorchers-Thunder squads, while the Stars confirmed Nicholas Pooran’s exit and Shaun Marsh celebrated his third child’s birth meaning he’ll return next game.
SQUAD NEWS
The Scorchers named an 18-man squad for Saturday’s clash with the Sydney Thunder at Optus Stadium, with Sam Whiteman ($81k WKP/BAT) dropping out.
Perth said Whiteman along with Cameron Gannon ($62k BWL) and Liam Guthrie ($42k BWL) have been granted a release from the hub protocols and will play in the WA Premier Cricket competition until further notice.
The Thunder named an unchanged 18-man squad to play Perth, with Daniel Sams ($199k BAT/BWL) previously ruled out with concussion.
Thunder coach Shane Bond said: “He’s feeling good but it’s really important we give him time to ensure he’s fully recovered. His health is the priority. As I said to him: ‘it’s not a matter of feeling good, it’s what might happen if you take another whack in the head.’”
Shaun Marsh ($137k BAT) will be available for the Renegades game on January 14 after his wife Bec gave birth to their third child Ted in Perth on Thursday. He’ll fly to Melbourne ahead of the game.
The Stars confirmed that Nicholas Pooran ($133k BAT/WKP) has finished his time with the club. As a result, Zahir Khan ($85k BWL) becomes their third import and can return to the playing squad.
We’ve banged on about the Afghan trio a fair bit lately but there’s still no confirmation on their departure date.
The Heat told Honeyball they expect Mujeeb Ur Rahman ($204k BWL) to be available for their games on Sunday 10 January and Thursday 14 January before departing for the Afghanistan-Ireland ODI series.
Teammate Lewis Gregory said: “He will be missed, if he is off in a few games. He’s amazing at what he does.”
TOMORROW
