SQUAD NEWS

The Sydney Thunder named an 18-man extended squad to play the Hobart Hurricanes in Perth on Thursday, but ruled out Daniel Sams ($199k BAT/BWL) due to concussion.

The Thunder have since also confirmed to Honeyball that Sams will miss Saturday’s game against the Scorchers, so both games in Sydney’s double game round.

Thunder coach Shane Bond said: “We’ve been conservative with all of our players when they’ve been injured, and I think we’ve benefitted from that. I think you need to be more concerned by head knocks, and we won’t be playing Dan in this match.”

Thunder squad: Ferguson, Billings, Cook, Cutting, Davies, Doggett, Gilkes, Green, Holt, Hales, Khawaja, McAndrew, Milne, Nair, Ross, J.Sangha, T.Sangha, Tremain

The Hurricanes named a 16-man squad for the game, with Charlie Wakim ($42k BAT) dropping out, while there’s no sign of James Faulkner ($181k BWL) or Will Jacks ($109k BAT/BWL).

Hurricanes squad: Boland, Botha, David, Ellis, Handscomb, Ingram, Sandeep, Malan, McDermott, Meredith, Moody, Owen, Parker, Short, Winter, Wright

The Heat named an 18-man squad to play the Melbourne Stars on Thursday night on the Gold Coast, with Chris Lynn ($144k BAT) confirmed after being X-factor last time out following a hamstring injury.

Loop option Lachy Pfeffer ($42k WKP/BAT) is back in the Heat squad which will make some SuperCoaches nervous. Pfeffer has replaced Connor Sully ($42k BWL) as Matt Willans ($42k BWL) replacement in the squad but unlikely to play given the Heat’s recent influx of batsmen.

Heat squad: Bartlett, Bazley, Burns, Bryant, Cooper, Denly, Gregory, Heazlett, Kuhnemann, Laughlin, Lynn, Pfeffer, Peirson, Milenko, Steketee, Mujeeb, Wildermuth, Wood

Also Marcus Stoinis ($139k BAT/BWL) was spotted bowling in the nets, which many will be interested in.

Ben Dwarshuis ($147k BWL) sustained a groin injury which forced him out of Wednesday’s Sixers loss to the Scorchers.
