Popular Round 3 trade-in selection Alex Carey was sensationally ruled out of Wednesday’s BBL match, while Marcus Stoinis is allegedly set to miss the Melbourne Stars’ next game.

SQUAD NEWS

Alex Carey ($177k WKP/BAT) and Harry Conway ($90k BWL) will miss out for Adelaide having been deemed unavailable for selection due to current border restrictions after playing in the Australia A game in the greater Sydney region from December 11-13.

The Strikers said: “Each was unable to travel to Brisbane before the latest Queensland border restrictions came into effect at 1:00am, December 21. As such, they have returned to Adelaide and will re-join the squad ahead of the first Adelaide Oval game on December 28.”

Liam O’Connor ($109k BWL) was also added to a 15-man squad, fuelling fears around fellow spinner Rashid Khan’s ($180k BWL) fitness.

Strikers squad: Siddle, Agar, Briggs, Rashid Khan, Nielsen, O’Connor, Johnson, Renshaw, Salt, Scott, Short, Valente, Weatherald, Wells, Worrall

Brisbane named an unchanged squad with Morne Morkel ($138k BWL) still not fit to take his place.

Heat squad: Bartlett, Bazley, Bryant, Cooper, Heazlett, Kuhnemann, Lawrence, Laughlin, Lynn, Peirson, Milenko, Steketee, Sully, Mujeeb, Wildermuth, Wood

Marcus Stoinis ($168k BAT/BWL) will miss the Stars’ next game on December 26 against the Sixers on the Gold Coast according to News Corp.

News Corp claimed he is being afforded extra time to spend with family in Perth.

Melbourne will be without another Star as Nic Maddinson ($83k BAT) has also been caught up in the Australia A border closure drama. Unless he gets an exemption, he’s unable to play in Saturday’s game on the Gold Coast.

The Hurricanes confirmed to Honeyball that Sandeep Lamichhane ($138k BWL) has arrived in Australia and is in 14-day quarantine in Adelaide. He’s due to link up with Hobart for their matches back in Tasmania, likely available from January 4.

FORM LINES

Haris Rauf ($213k BWL) finished off the New Zealand-Pakistan T20I series with figures of 2-44 from his four overs on Tuesday. Imad Wasim ($160k BAT/BWL) did not play.

Pakistan also named their Test squad on Monday, with Imad not included meaning he’s free to immediately had to Australia to link up with the Renegades.

Rauf also missed out on the Test squad but has been included in a Pakistan Shaheens squad to play five T20 matches, meaning he’ll head to Australia around January 6 to join the Stars.

They’ll both be available quickly given they’re coming from New Zealand with no quarantine requirement.
