Collingwood and West Coast named debutants on Friday, while the absence of Tom Doedee, Fischey McAsey and Dale Stephens was confirmed as well as Freo gun Michael Walters.

TEAM NEWS
Ins: Majak Daw, Aiden Bonar, Riley Knight, Bryce Gibbs, Jake Kelly, Rory Atkins, Josh Battle, Will Hayward, Harry Edwards, Brendon Ah Chee
Outs: Ben Brown, Jared Polec, Tom Doedee (injured), Brad Crouch (injured), David Mackay (managed), Fischer McAsey (managed), Dean Kent (illness), Dale Stephens, Josh Rotham, Jack Redden (injured)

Harry Edwards (AF $170k SC $123k DEF) has been named for his debut for West Coast, although he doesn’t appear to have much job security, standing in for the injured Jeremy McGovern.

Well-owned defensive option Tom Doedee (AF $529k SC $433k DEF) is out injured. Crows coach Matthew Nicks said: “Tommy Doedee will miss, we don’t want to take a risk there coming off a long term injury.

“He’s up and running and has had a solid week, but a six-day break, it’s just not worth risking Tom.”

Jared Polec (AF $686k SC $443k MID) and Ben Brown (AF $397k SC $269k FWD) have both surprisingly been omitted by North Melbourne although they’re owned by few coaches.

Rookies Fischer McAsey (AF $257k SC $199k DEF) and Dale Stephens (AF $327k SC $208k MID) have both been omitted, although the former was managed according to the Crows.

DEBUTANT ALERTS
Collingwood also confirmed that Irish key defender Mark Keane (AF $170k SC $123k DEF) will make his debut against Fremantle on Sunday.

West Coast have named young key 197cm defender Edwards, with McGovern still out with a fractured thumb and Will Schofield now down the pecking order.

He was pick 18 in the 2018 AFL Rookie Draft. Edwards said: “I knew Gov was a bit 50-50 and was always going to try it out a training today and see how it went, the cards fell my way and I’m debuting.”

WALTERS OUT
Michael Walters (AF $727 SC $550k MID/FWD) will miss Sunday’s clash with Collingwood following his hamstring scare last round against Geelong.

Freo coach Justin Longmuir said: “There’s a strain there. We had a review on that scan & it looks to be a really minor strain.

“He‘ll have to tick a lot of boxes to play next week (against Hawthorn after the bye) but we’ll give him that opportunity.”

Nat Fyfe (AF $714k SC $639k MID) looks set to return, which may have an impact on Andrew Brayshaw (AF $665k SC $536k MID/FWD) and Caleb Serong’s (AF $390k SC $283k MID) output.

Longmuir said: “He is travelling well. His final hurdle is training today but we’re expecting no issues.”

Connor Blakely (AF $555 SC $411k DEF) will come in for the injured Darcy Tucker too, after a long time out of the side.

TOMORROW
