Bailey Smith’s return for Round 12 has been confirmed while teammate Buku Khamis may yet hold on to his spot plus there’s a Lachie Neale tag flag and the mid-season draftee prices and positions were confirmed.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge confirmed Bailey Smith (AF $903k SC $552k M/F) would return from illness in Round 12. Beveridge said: “Baz will come back in obviously. Definitely one change to the team. He’s bounced back a bit quicker than one or two others. He trained yesterday & got through with flying colours.”

Beveridge also eluded to why Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (AF $279k SC $183k FWD), who kicked six goals in the VFL last weekend, didn’t return to the senior side at the expense Buku Khamis (AF $273k SC $154k DEF). He said: “‘Marra’s’ last two weeks have been really encouraging. He is pushing to be back in that 22… but it’s going to be difficult to change the team too much after the performance last week.

“Some of the hidden things you don’t necessarily see on the stats sheet from one or two of the boys that play in those roles that ‘Marra’ might be playing in if he was in the team, we’ve got to be measured in our thought process.”

He also spoke about the form of Tim English (AF $837k SC $572k F/R) along with his role. He said: “His return last week, he was best man on the ground. He becomes an important factor to get that drive out of the stoppage… It remains to be seen how often we do that (English/Sweet ruck combo).”

Cam Rayner (AF $516k SC $358k F/M) had more mid time last round and Lions coach Chris Fagan spoke about his role on SEN. He said: “He probably still plays forward more than mid but that percentage is gradually changing. I don’t know where it’ll end up by the end of the year, maybe a bit more 50-50.”

Nat Fyfe (AF $709k SC $546k MID) is looming for an AFL return which is expected to impact the role of Will Brodie (AF $752k SC $552k M/F). Fyfe will play WAFL this weekend and Freo coach Justin Longmuir said about his WAFL role: “I won’t go into too much but he’ll play a split (of midfield/forward).”

Longmuir also flagged that James Aish may be used to tag Lachie Neale (AF $932k SC $648k MID) after successfully taking Clayton Oliver out of the game in the second half last week. Longmuir said: “We’ll definitely look at it. We haven’t had selection yet but it’s something we’ll discuss pretty heavily this afternoon.”
